...but first, a rant!
Started the week (well actually it was last Saturday) with the intention of ordering a Halios Laguna. The watch fund was ready for my next purchase and so I finally decided to get one. I went to the Halios website only to find out that they had 'retired' the Laguna! WTF?! Now that I want to buy it already?!?! After all that time staring at it?!?!
Pissed, I scouted around for the other watch I wanted on my list a Steinhart Nav B-Uhr B-type. But then I got this idea - why not just make one since I've always fancied Harolds P-38 dial. I have a the Laco PVD version anyway so I'll maybe try something new. After a few emails to Harold and a lot of internal debating on how I'd like to set up the watch, here is the final product...
I name it... the "SCUVIATOR!!!.....tor!....tor!...tor!..." a115
(Sorry for the crappy pic, best I could do at this time of night)
I know you've seen dozens of similar looking mods but I'd like to think that this one's different so pls bear with me.
The 007 is a diver's watch and there's no denying that (it's also the perfect/practical mod base). The plongeur hands are very legible typical diver's hands but I also chose them because they match up so well with the aviator dial (see how the hour hand tip lines up with the inner hour disc). The black date wheel keeps things clean and tidy on the dial and focuses your attention on the hands. I opted to use the Roman numeral day indicator to make things more ermm... military? LOL. The best feature for me is the stealth second hand which is really fun to watch as it goes around the black dial - it looks like its floating, aligning perfectly with the hour ring and the tip lands right at the end of the minute markers! In keeping with the aviator theme I opted for the SS GMT bezel. If you travel a lot like I do, it's quite useful. It might get a bit complicated above a 12-hr time difference but still practical IMHO - on the pic above it shows both HK (10:13pm) and Amsterdam (4:13pm) time. Neat. To finish the watch off I have a black and a brown aviator strap (courtesy of Watchworx UK). So then... Scuba + Aviator = Scuviator!
Apologies for some of the non-sense but I'm seriously OC with those little details and I am REALLY pleased with how it turned out. Thanks to Harold (Yobokies) for doing a fantastic and speedy job as usual!
I'm still pissed at Halios... but quite happy with my new Seiko! a063
