I recently bought a 7549-7010 which had been modified with a different movement but came with all the original parts too. One of the movements that came with the watch is a Hamazawa Ltd Y513A 2 jewel movement. The actual metal parts from the movement are a 7546, but the plastic top is from Hamazawa. Seems kind of weird that the plastic part with the electronics would fit directly onto a Seiko 7546 movement. Does anyone know if this is a common modification as a quick google search brings up quite a few examples of Seikos with these fitted.

They were a OEM movement manufacturer that was absorbed into SUWA Seikosha in 1986.
They made the movements for a bunch of "Swiss but not Swiss" brands and some of the lesser known Japanese brands e.g. URIKA in the 70's. They probably became a subsidiary of SEIKO at some point in the late 70's before they were absorbed. So I'd say your movement was license built for brands that wanted a good quartz movement that didn't say SEIKO on it.
This is before the SII/TMI days.

What Adrian said. I have one as well, and the branding on my movement is Pulsar. Simply a Pulsar Y513 movement. These movements is a direct drop-in fit to the 7546/7548 seiko models.

Thanks for the info. I'm not a keen quartz fan but its always handy to have a spare working movement. Unfortunately the 7549 movement which came with the watch seems to be toast so a recently serviced 7548 movement will be taking its place. One great thing with these movements is the interchangeability of parts

What's wrong with the 7549? You could always convert the 7548 to a 7549 using the parts on hand. Spencer did a write up on it a while ago.

I'd be interested in the 7549 movement and hands if you'd like to sell them.

I think it must be the chip which is build into the green plastic part. I swapped the green plastic part to a working 7546 and it didnt work. I havent really looked at it much but the 7549 movement does have some water damage by the looks of things so I'm guessing this is the cause. Also a couple of parts are missing from it so I think its going to be a donor movement and not a runner. I'll be swapping around a few movements between watches until I get some setups I'm happy with but if I dont have a requirement for the 7549 parts then I'll certainly let you know.
