Scored THIS 6138-0011 today, pretty happy with the price. From what I've been told by a very reliable source, the hour & minute hands are incorrect. I guess I'll need to hunt a proper pair down, hopefully it's not too difficult. I was very happy with the overall condition, and it was a big bonus to have what seems to be an original bracelet.

Tim Nice catch.... I was watching that one myself just for the oem seiko president bracelet .....yes it is original and was manufactured by Stelux for seiko I had the same one on my last Yachtsman The hands are from a 6139 and it was common place for seiko to use them as replacements for damaged originals. Correct hands are difficult to locate but not impossible.. You might want to check with Spencer

I think the rest can be sorted out, and for the price I paid, I won't feel bad putting a bit more into it.

Oh man that's a nice catch. The 6138-0011 is a model I have yet to scratch on my list of must haves. I for one would be contented with the hands. Good luck finding the hands you want but like I said, it already looks great to me. Enjoy it!

Great piece, Tim!

I must confess I actually like the less pointy hands compared to the original shape...
Once in a dream I won the lottery and bought my wife a yacht, but when I showed the surprise to her she reacted with a disappointed "A white one?", so I had to flip it again. Then I woke up.

Those hands are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT for an early 6138-001x. The shorter hands were replaced with the longer "pencil" hands seen on the Bullheads in about 1971. If you see a 6138-001x with a water resistance indication on the dial, it generally should have these hands. The bracelet is a Stelux, and is also correct.

If you look closely at the famous "Yachtsman" ad from 1970, the watch in the pic has those exact hands! banana1.gif

Lol...I hope somebody does, but this is the best I could find. They all seem pretty small.

I found this one that is supposedly from 69/70, but the dial is not a Resist.

Perhaps this ad is from later than 1969/70, wouldn't the 6139's have a Resist dial at this time?

Well, I'd say this definitely proves, that this model came with the shorter hands. I'll be happy for you if true, but again looking at my 6138-0011 which is only a few thousand away from yours, same month & same year (& same bracelet), it has the long hands. Yours is 131756, mine is 136032. Again, if it's true and the short hands are correct, awesome.
