I can't help noticing the rapid increase in asking prices on junk Seiko watches; in particular diver and diver style pieces. The prices of BIN keep rising and more of what used to be BIN is now being put up for auction.
Most of it keeps getting recycled and I suspect a lot of folks just walk away being turned off by prices for junk watches that will end up costing more than better working examples might cost.
Is this just misdirected greed or are these over priced junkers actually being snapped up by the unsuspecting???

Burgernomics.
I think the inflation rating in the old days was based on fast food pricing.
You used to be able to buy a Big Mac or quarter pounder value meal for $3 or less and now it is up to $6.
Same thing on Ebay.
You have to use the Ramon the watch collector index.
I almost bought a orange redialed otherwise original 6105 for $50 but since in the old days you could see the user ID's and the other bidder was Shawn Taylor "TaylorSF" so I backed off and it ended up selling for the opening bid of $50.
Nowadays you could part it out for $300.
You used to be able to buy cushion case 6309's from Ramon for $25 and slim cased 6309's for $15.

I remember buying complete, running 6139s in decent shape from Ramon for under $50...BIN! As the price of the beautiful safe queens goes up, the price of their ugly, shabby sisters goes up, too.

I've only been collecting Seiko's for 2 to 3 years but even in that time span I've seen prices rocket, particularly for the junkers. There also seems to have been an increase in the type of ebay seller that takes 'artistic' photos of their watches, post very long, flowery descriptions & sell pieces full of A/M bits & often achieve prices around double that of what many of us think of as a market value. The Pogue seems very popular in the UK at the moment & I've seen many over polished, aftermarket part ridden one's sell for around $450 !!! Maybe it's this kind of watch dealer that's pushing prices up ? It's a shame really that this hobby is becoming so much more expensive as it will probably put off a lot of new or young collectors.
On the other side of the coin though, I think Seiko dress watches are still superb value for what they are & can give some people as much enjoyment as a diver that costs ten times as much.
