My wife went out yesterday and did some erranding. While out she stopped in at Arc Thrift and found a watch for me as a joke, for $5.99. A Casio Data Bank 300 / dbc-310 from '97. It was in sharp condition, nice looking and clean. Opening it up, it looked new inside. I swapped out the battery, and the whole thing came back to life instantly. Because these models had data protection, the watch's memo function was stuffed with someone's phone contacts and reminders. The person appears to have been Korean based on the names. That was interesting. I've left them for now simply because I haven't researched how to reset the entire watch, and deleting each contact character by character would take forever. I did a quick bit of searching online about the model. While there's a lot online, it's mostly out of date retail information. There are two eBay listings however. One is for a NIB example for almost $500 which seems ridiculous. There's another one that's used with one bid at $120. Why would anyone pay $120 for one of these? I'm thinking the seller is using a second account to put in a starting bid to get more action, but then I'm a suspicious bastard. However, I also found a current place to buy a replica version... for $80. Any input people?

Great find!
I'd retain all the data as part of its history, I think that's pretty cool.

Guess the joke is on your wife, eh? All I know is Casio guys are NUTS when it comes to collecting. They will spend some serious cash. I think they have it worse than us Seiko/Citizen guys! a115

The "-1" version of a movement is worthless, but the "-12" you can't touch, but to my eyes they're identical in every respect except for the number. embarrassed-smiley-face

I dig 'em Spencer. Reminds me of my early teenage years when I thought calculator & multifunction watches were so darn cool. Luckily, I never outgrew the fondness: (Stock photo from one of the WRUW posts on the SCWF). Enjoy it!! Dan
