The Heuer's don't show their faces very often, this acquisition might take a lot longer than I had anticipated.

Those are beautiful! Yours? I wish they were mine. This thread & your Heuer collection photos have stirred a bit of interest for me & I found these for sale on a UK based website. Thought they were such great examples that I'd post the pics. Very expensive though, the Monaco is priced at around $12000 !!!! I think the Seiko version is more in my price league. Here's another pic to make some of us drool. Even the boxes look great. That Seiko doesn't have to take a back seat for any of those Heuers(as nice as they are) hellno.gif

Even if I won the lottery & could afford to buy a Rolex, Omega & Heuer for every day of the month, I'd still keep my Seiko's & buy more of them. As far as style, quality & value for money goes, I think Seiko is first past the post.

While we're on the topic of Heuer; does anyone know if Heuer is a family name or just the Swiss spelling for 'time/hour'?

While we're on the topic of Heuer; does anyone know if Heuer is a family name or just the Swiss spelling for 'time/hour'? From Wikipedia... TAG Heuer traces its roots to 1860 when Edouard Heuer founded Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG (English: Heuer Watchmaking Inc.) in St-Imier, Switzerland. Edouard Heuer patented his first chronograph in 1882 and in 1887 patented an 'oscillating pinion' still used by major watchmakers of mechanical chronographs.[3][4]

THIS one jumped $500 in the final 10 seconds, no doubt made the seller happy.

The one above seems quite expensive to me but I know nothing about them apart from the Autavia seems to be quite a popular model. It'd be interesting to hear The Dons opinion. Here's how this one ended www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271241824538?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648There's quite a good movement pic on this listing, I noticed it marked Leonidas which I thought was a sub-brand ? Anyone know the connection ?

What is the model number on that...VERY nice. So thanks to Chris (Don Ciccio), I now can't get the idea of owning a nice example off my mind. I need one, seriously... *image borrowed from web*

I don't have one of these in my collection yet, but hope to one day.

That model is the Autavia 11630. The Autavia chronograph line was made from about 1962 through 1986. They had about 6 different case styles if I'm not mistaken and the same cases were shared with other watch companies at the time , Zodiac , Baylor, Bulova and a few others that escape me at the moment. The Heuer Skipper and one version of the Regatta also shared one of the same Autavia cases.

Heuer acquired the Leonidas brand in the early 1960s, and they combined company marketing watches under the "Heuer-Leonidas" name. This was one of the designs that Heuer acquired from Leonidas it was called the "Bundeswehr" chronograph, used by the German air force.

Do you have any opinions about the prices achieved for the Autavia that Tim posted the link for & the military style one with the big black bezel that I posted above ? I love me a Big Black Bezel yes1.gif

So far I've had better luck than Forrest Gump when it comes to acquiring what I have at the prices I've paid. Deals are still out there to be made , but you really have to be vigilant. Every once in a while they'll pop up on eBay with below market BIN prices.

I thought the Autavia seemed expensive for what I perceive as not a rare watch with a fairly nasty looking bezel but I thought the other one with the BBB seemed reasonably good value if compared to other similar Swiss pieces.

I agree with you on both accounts. There is a seller on eBay that makes replacement inserts for Heuers that are damn good. If you want to be surprised by something that is in rough condition selling for alot of money search "Vintage Heuer Autavia Kenya Air Force" on eBay and watch what that goes for.
