I bought this 6105-8000 of EBay UK and paid a heavy price for not performing my normal due diligence on any EBay purchase. The clue was in the guys refusal to open the watch back and show the movement. Anyway I paid £600 for it and it duly arrived the next day. The case back was loosely done up, so I didn't see the reason for not taking a picture of the movement. Then I opened it up and found the reason why..... So I sent it off to Benchdweller along with a big collection of NOS 6105 parts to try and turn "old rusty" in to a working watch. Clearly the crown had leaked and the watch had been left face up to soak the movement and rot it away. All pictures are his and it took him quite a while to strip down, as a lot of the screws were rusted away or rusted in. He soaked it in WD40 to free up the rusted parts and eventually it came apart. So a very big lesson learnt and very lucky I bought that stash of 6105 parts 2 years ago. Dave is a magician as far as I am concerned and has turned a pigs ear in to silk purse.

Ouch! I'll bet that hurt when you opened the caseback, I imagine your stomach lurched down to somewhere about your ankles! I'm wary of even buying a £20 watch off eBay without a photo of the movement, and if a seller refused to provide one without good reason I'd walk away (unless I really wanted it). Not that I'd ever consider spending that amount on a watch, but if I did then I doubt I'd looking at eBay. Glad it worked out for you in the end, and hats off to Benchdweller for managing to rescue it

Dave is such a nice bloke and a class talent. That looks great. Good buy in the end? Well I think so, so well done both!

Definitely hats off to Dave but even he had his doubts and said it was the worst he'd seen. Normally the dial gives away water ingress on a 6105, but this one is great and no lume rot at all. That's what threw me, but I did get carried away and bought at far too high a price. However 6105 prices are going through the roof, so in the end it's ended ok.

Now THAT's a restoration! Glad it worked out in the end. And really it's nicer in a weird way because now you have a fully serviced movement.

So, siralan isn't the only magician when it comes to turning irretrievable lumps of rust into things of beauty.
Kudos to Benchdweller and his skill 7dfe79adc2f0

Great job, is it a proof/resist? Yes it's January 1970 proof back and resist dial.

Great to see it up and running. Are those hands original to the watch?

Everything is original to the watch other than the Klein 1 crystal and the stash of NOS 6105 movement parts. Benchdweller maybe dipped the hands in vinegar overnight to remove the tarnish and of course they have been re lumed to match the dial indices, which were merely cleaned.

That is just plain awesome. How on earth Dave got all those rusty screws out I struggle to imagine. Did he use a Bergeon screw extractor?

Thanks for the heads up Bodo. I did wonder about the hands, as they were different to the other 6105 I have, but as you mentioned, clearly swapped a long time ago and I wouldn't change them, as they are part of the watch history now and look fine, to me at least.

Great job, is it a proof/resist? Yes it's January 1970 proof back and resist dial. Nice now to find a good "aged" set of hands for it

WOW . . . I'd have been pissed to open the back and find that mess! Glad it worked out in the end and it is a beautiful watch. Enjoy wearing it.
