Just picked this up in a charity shop for £5 ,the shop assistant said it was a fiver because it wasn't working and didn't have a strap [ she also added that it might just need a battery ] Even has what I presume is it's original case I gave it a wind when I got it home and it fired right up and keeps time

Very nice! I wish I could find anything worth buying in charity shops, all I ever come across are crappy fashion watches. I'll happily see you make a profit on it: how does a tenner sound? What the hell, I'll even stretch to a purple one!

That's fantastic. I love seeing old untouched Omegas from the 40's-60's still being worn. Looking forward to a wrist shot. What I find remarkable for that watch is the quality of the lugs and the even aging of the dial. Very lucky find.

Great find!
Hey did this get refereed to ass Owl eye at one point because of the size of the sub seconds at 6? I tried to look them up that way in a search a while ago and got nothing. Or was there another slang name for these? Or was it another watch entirely?

Thanks gents , it will probably be going off to the spa [ if the guy I normally use isn't snowed under ] I still feel it's not something I'll wear but it might clean up nicely. I'll post some picks if I manage to get it sorted

Yeah but how long would it run for mate,it might have been sat in a drawer for 40 years ,I always feel better knowing they've been serviced and all is as it should be.

My 6139 Pulsations was sat in a drawer for 25 years and still ran on first pick up but I'm glad I had it serviced for the reason you say.

I'll post some picks if I manage to get it sorted Servicing a vintage piece is a necessary evil (as in being out of pocket) but the damage caused running these on old dried up oil will ruin them. Recent tear downs on here have demonstrated how bad they can get, not to mention wear on hard to find or unavailable parts due to no lubrication. I think you have to consider the value of the watch to the cost of a service but to each there own.

Good deal.
Looks like a real gold case, in which case, the case alone is worth well above 5 quid.

Just back from full service and new crystal at Simon's [ siralan ] Simon is a top notch bloke he sent me detailed pics and explanations of the strip down and re build process and is obviously passionate about what he does [ I knew from the first update that everything was going to be spot on ] Cheers mate The assay marks date it to 1949/50 i'm really please that I decided to get it serviced it's a cracking little watch and deserves to have a better fate than being scrapped for the gold or sat moldering in a drawer ps, My conscience was bothering me [re the £5 purchase price ] so I went back to the charity shop and donated another 50 quid, so with service cost etc etc it owes me £150 ish [still not too bad IMO ]

That's looking better Jim! Really pleased you decided to get it serviced, that one deserves to be back on a wrist again.
Simon really is a top bloke as you say; his work is outstanding and his attention to detail phenomenal. I know he doesn't let it go back to the owner unless he's 100% happy with it, and that normally means close to perfection!
Looking at the results, has there been some touching up done to the numerals on the dial (especially the 'VIII') or was the old crystal just making them appear 'faded'?
Oh, and nice touch going back to the charity shop and bunging them some extra dosh! I'd imagine they were well chuffed.

You're right about Simon, I also sent him two 6139s and one of them had a problem that he just wouldn't let go of until he'd sorted it [ running beautifully now ]
