I'd like to know the perceived origins of the various Seiko watches. The Seiko Caesar I've been wearing lately has sparked my interest but others like the 62MAS, Pogue, Stargate, Sumo and the list goes on. I get but others might not understand The Arnie, the Tuna, The Apocalypse and don't mention the Turtle.

I haven't seen a comprehensive list. It would make an excellent research project and be great for the reference section.

WUS and SCWF both have threads dealing with this from a year or two ago.

Hey to each his own and these nicknames are here to stay, but I for one do not get into them (except Pogue and Panda).

I think nicknames for watches are dumb.
I suppose it makes it easier then quoting model numbers since Seiko uses a lot of similar model numbers for completely different watches but . . .

They drive me nuts. I get emails all the time like "Do you have a back gasket for a SEIKO Purple Monkey?" WTF is a purple monkey? that or the marketing names like SARB077 or something, which are hard to search on sometimes. Really need the full case reference... Hey to each his own and these nicknames are here to stay, but I for one do not get into them (except Pogue and Panda).

Just when you think someone is joking with some Mad Libs name a Seiko you can find one that fits the bill.

Really need the full case reference... Grumpy like Swedefreak Both Adrian and Jonathan had good reason to be grumpy on this issue. For general forum chatter, the nicknames are fine but when it comes to actual parts, there is nothing like a proper casing number or a calibre number to get the correct parts. If I was a findings house and someone asked me for a gasket set for a turtle, I would tell them to go pound sand and stop wasting my time. Nicknames have their place but people have to be reasonable when requesting specific parts.

Not grumpy at all, but I can't help you without the correct info. I don't really have the time to search the world's watch forums to find out what some nickname means. My time is money and I give a lot away for free, but it could even be considered rude to give me some vague info and expect me to solve your problems. Also, several variations share the same nickname how do I know it's the variation you're talking about? Really need the full case reference... Grumpy like Swedefreak

BTW ... 62MAS is not technically a nick name it is a name that Seiko assigned to the class of movements.
