So, after a just a few months of patient stalking, I bought this in the early hours of this morning. I really didn't think it was going to come my way & as it is coming in from the US by Priority, I just know that I'll be taxed on it when it lands in England, but judging by the prices I've seen some of these fetch in non-running & poor condition on ebay UK, I think the cost will still be okay. Here she is, not perfect but good enough for me. (sellers pics) Muchas gracias to Senor Chris 'The Enabler' who has given me some great Heuer advice over the weeks. Probably wouldn't own this without his help. It's greatly appreciated. Thank you sir. I do have a couple of questions about this piece that I'm sure someone here can answer (TIA Chris & maybe others). I've a feeling that this has the wrong case back number = 980.007. When I put that into Google images, the page is full of these ones below, so I'm wondering if the correct number for mine is 980.006 Any opinions on that ? Also, does anyone have any advice on sourcing crystals ? There is a guy on the bay here who has some but some are sold by size rather than part number. CousinsUK don't seem to have any either & my searching has drawn a blank so far. I'm sure my watch guy could sort me out but I'd rather get it 'cos it will take him weeks. He's about 70 & doesn't use the web, instead, when he needs parts he writes a letter to his suppliers ! My last question is about age. I'm guessing this is mid-'80s but aren't sure ? Oh, & Tim... hurry-up-smiley-emoticon Beat ya to it buddy. Pull your finger out old bean. (Hope you weren't bidding on this one)

Dave, I'm so glad you got this watch! The jumbo Heuer divers are truly a wood inspiring model. Let me see if I can answer some questions for you. The model you got here is more than likely from around 84' or 85'. It has a Tag Heuer crown which would indicate that this came from that sweet spot when the two companies first merged. Also for the caseback having the orange dial designation ... this could also be because of the two companies merging. Tag Heuer used up any and all old Heuer parts during this time and you'll find that many will have both Heuer and Tag Heuer signed parts and some will have case backs with different Jumbo designations. For example ... Here is one of my Jumbo divers from that same time
All original except for the bracelet and it has the same caseback designation for the orange dialed version. As for the crystal size ... you are looking for a 31.0 mm crystal in 2.5mm thickness. I'm almost 99% certain of that , but to be sure I'll double check and let you know on Monday. She's a real beauty Dave. I can't wait to see the pics of her on your wrist. thunbsup.gif

Looks like I had this one on my auctions to watch list, I think it was the lack of original bracelet that was the deal breaker for me. As it turns out, that's a good thing...I'm really glad you got this one, very nice indeed. Looking forward to the wrist shot, please keep us updated!

The original Heuer jubilee bracelets always pop up on the bay. So do the original Tropic straps. Lack of either shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I came across those catalogues while trying to find out if this type of watch would have had the option of a tropic strap when new as I prefer straps on diver's watches. I like the look of the one below so will start hunting soon. Chris, is the lug size 20 or 22mm ? I've found some NOS straps like this that are pretty dear, I'm surprised I haven't been able to find any repros yet . My watch is stuck in the Windy City hurry-up-smiley-emoticon
