I think it's hard to beat ebay specially from a buyers perspective, mainly because if you use paypal it's a peace of mind as you know your money is safe... You can use PayPal when using Buyee as well. I'm not against Ebay, I just feel it is a sellers market at this time. My observations is that the market is flooded with watches and prices are a little inflated. But heck, Ebay is how I got drawn into this rabbit hole haha. We all started somewhere.

Auctioning hunting in Japan can be intimidating initially. I agree with the intermediary advice. I use Zenmarket and have been very happy with their user-interface, fees and service.
What you do is sign up, you have to transfer money from Paypal over to your Zenmarket account and then you can bid. They charge 3 bucksish per item won, and then domestic shipping whatever the seller posts. You can collect items up to 45 days before they begin charging a storage charge of like . . . 50 cents a day? That way you can save on multiple shipping charges (to you) by sending them together. Once you've shipped 5 times with Zenmarket they give you bidding credit up to 20,000 yen, which makes it easier on you if you don't want to hold a bunch of money sitting in your account.
Once you've done it, it make sense and IMO provides great opportunities for some decent Japanese vintage watches.
I've found that for lesser known Japanese watches, auctions in Japan produce better buying opportunities - in items and prices.
I imagine any of the recommended intermediaries are fine.
