Hi, I received my 6100 8000 in the post today , I bought it non working . The stem did not seem to do anything apart from wind ? and protruded from the case. I took the back off to see if anything was obvious and released the stem. Hey presto the watch sprang into life. Could it be the wrong stem as it will not go back into the movement without protruding and when in wont lock in so hands can be adjusted or could it be something major ?.

A good possibility is that the castle gear has dropped out of place when the last person was inside the watch. If that is what happened then the movement will need partial disassembly to fix it. The other possibility is that someone replaced the stem with a wrong part.

Thanks There is one thing you could try to see if it is just the castle gear out of place. Take the crown/stem out of the watch the turn it dial side up and tap it around the sides with your finger. This will often jog the gear back into place. Then with the dial still facing up, try reinserting the stem. This has worked about 9 times out of 10 for me with situations like this.

Enjoy your watch as much as I would if it was mine. BTW, I am an enthusiast of vintage Seiko hand winders. I have 66A, 66b, 6602B, 7000-8000 and a couple of other models.
Most of the Seiko hand winders were of a quality that met Swiss standards for time keeping. They were robust and as a result, a lot of them are still around
