I was looking at bidding on a parts watch in the US. shipped by the GSP.
The item cost at present is US$9.99
International Post US$22.93
Import Charges US$7.62 At present item cost.
Whats the go here? Aus does't have import charges on amounts less than AU$1000.00
I would have to pay GST of 10%, but on the total amount of item and post that would only be AU$4.00, and I should only have to pay GST on the item cost.
I have bought things before using the GSP and didn't get charged import charges, is this a new good little earner for Pitney-Bowes?
The postage cost alone is almost enough to put me off and it is unlikely the watch it will go for the present item cost.
USA may be the home of the brave brave but it sure ain't the land of the free1
Welcome to the USA a Trump Family Country.

Looks like there is a gap in the market for a US-based buying/forwarding service.

Yeah, I have no idea how GSP calculates 'import costs', but I doubt it's got much to do with actual taxes. I won't buy anything shipped via GSP.

I feel your pain as a buyer, sort of how we in the USA pay for UK shipments here, it adds $18-ish for mostly anything we want including a $5 part.
Accessibility via the WWW does not bring economically access.

GSP must work like UPS. International shipping with their brokerage service. Even on items with low value you get hit with their standard brokerage fee. At least that’s how it worked a couple years ago

GSP is something like mandatory (if the seller decides so) forwarding service with nasty fees. And the bonus is that they can be really slow (much slower than regular snail mail).

The Global Shipping Program is a convenience for US sellers...one which we do not have to use. Instead of standing in line at the Post Office filling out the customs form for that watch I want to ship to Uzbekistan (in triplicate), I would ship the watch to Ebay's shipping center here in the States (I think it is in Georgia). The shipping center checks the merch, then bills the buyer the appropriate amount to get it into that country. They fill out the customs forms. It is then sent from the shipping center to the overseas buyer.
Foreign buyers hate it because all the government taxes, fees, bribes, duties, and bullshit of their home country can't be fudged away by marking the package as a 'gift' or 'parts' or something. They have to pay for what they voted for at the ballot box to get that 6309 into their hands.
It is basically the same shipping arrangement system employed by Japanese proxy buyers such as Buyee, only without the actual proxy bidding component.
PS: The Global Shipping Program pre-dates the evil Trump Administration. If you have to blame a president for it, then I guess it's Obama.
