I think it is time to drop beer altogether. Lately even the ones with no wheat and the least amount of barley are giving me grief. Wine isn't the answer either as I don't find it satisfying like beer used to be. Vodka is an option but to me it's like lite beer Scotch and Rye are out because they are wheat based. Other than Gin which I equate to Russian gasoline, that leaves Bourbon. My understanding is that most if not all bourbons are made from corn. Over the years and through my travels in the US, I've sampled many different kinds. The only ones that struck a note and that I remember liking were heavier, sweeter ones. Any suggestions...ones with the highest corn content would be best.

Very interesting! So there are a couple with 80 - 92% corn and 8 - 10% rye. One of those might do the trick since they would tend to be heavier and sweeter. I'm guessing those will be the more expensive one.

Gday mate. I like Blanton which is a Buffalo Trace product. Don’t know the blend but Buffalo Trace is 90 Corn and 10 Rye. Personally, I steer clear of Rum as it contains a nasty which makes many people aggressive. Our Bundaberg rum is good and an overproof is available which makes you what to fight even more. Cheers Phil

Pete. The Blanton here is only a couple of bucks dearer than Buffalo Trace. Considering the price points the Buffalo will probably do the job. I drink it neat. Cheers Phil

I'm going to sample several Bourbons and rums until I find one that doesn't get me killed in a cross bow fight

Don't forget grape-based spirits.
Brandy is made from grapes, as is rakı, is a Turkish spirit flavored with anise.

I completely forgot about rum which is generally made from sugar cane. Hmmm... Plantation, Pusser’s and Mount Gay are very drinkable, as is good old fashioned Lamb’s Navy Rum. Plantation 20th Anniversary rum is one of the nicest I’ve had.

I see apples mentioned above. How does cider treat you? Cider can be difficult though - hard to find one that's not too sweet, not to acidic, just right. I don't know about North America, but there's a lot of new gin making happening in Australia at the moment and it's a lot more interesting than gin used to be. New and small distillers have realised that you can get a rapid return on gin because it doesn't need ten years of barrel ageing like whisky so they're making it to fill the coffers while their first batch of whisky ages.

She seems to be into cocktails a lot lately I guess the good thing about that drink is that one could use less expensive rum

The ginger beer takes the rough edge off cheap rum and you can easily make the ginger beer yourself. Cheers Phil

Cheers Phil Well, I decided to steer clear of Bourbon just because even 10% rye could be a gut killer. So I zeroed in on rum. After reading reviews on various enthusiast forums, I decided to try Captain Morgan Dark Rum. After all the glowing reviews and people insisting this is a sipping rum, I have to say that I find it close to sipping low grade gasoline I'm finishing up the bottle by making rum n cokes. At least this way it is almost palatable. I don't want to have to resort to mixed drinks just to enjoy a particular beverage Not sure what to do next...
