Had to replace 7 capacitors on the power board. Six had bulged and one had leaked causing a bit of damage. Had to improvise. Scraped away some of the conformal coating to reveal some usable copper. All working again for £8.99

I got to revice half a dozen LCD monitors at work a couple years ago. Different brands but they all had bad(bulged) caps in the power supply. Just replaced them with whatever we had that was close in capacity and all of the were put back in service.
Before my intervention, all those monitors would have seen the recycler!

Yeah, some of the caps I used are slightly upgraded, ie microfarad matches but V is slightly higher.

rob3rto, you’re just not playing the game are you? Don’t you know you’re not supposed to try and fix these devices, you’re meant to head out to Currys or wherever, spend £9000 and upgrade’ your obviously out-of-date TV and replace it with the latest Samsung 82” 8K HDR UHD QLED SMART TV, pick up a mount to hang it on you chimney breast and consign the old one to one of the (probably) 4 shipping containers labelled ‘TVs/PC Monitors’ at your local dump. It’s the only sensible thing to do.

There's a certain amount of satisfaction to be had bringing something destined for the scrap heap back to life - as all watch tinkerers know. I've switched out the caps in serveral family pvrs over the years. It's not too hard, even for ham-fisted solderers like me.
