This week leading up to International Pogue Day has been a lot of fun Just great seeing everybody's 6139's out and about, getting worn on wrists and experiencing the light of day. I had a blast but like all things it must come to an end. Sorry this week of celebrating the Colonel and Seiko 6139 chronographs is over but a BIG THANKS to Pip for creating the event !
So for the final actual day I have this submission. Over the years we've seen 'discussions' (YES Peter I know, I know) and much is made of the term "True Pogue". Some of our more purist collectors say a "Pogue" must be a 6139-6005 with gold "WATER70RESIST" dial or it's "not a true Pogue". Ultra purists say a 6139-6002 with gold RESIST dial doesn't count because of its extra line of dial text. Others argue that any gold dial -600X is a Pogue, but if it has a blue or silver dial, then no they say.
Myself the term Pogue applies to any 6139-600X whether it be blue, silver or gold dial, SpeedTimer version, PROOF Dial, RESIST Dial and any 600X not just a -6005. etc.,
Nonetheless I decided to put my mind to coming up with the 'truest Pogue' anyone will come as close to owning as having the real deal itself.

I use this iconic photo to determine the foundation for what Bill Pogue's watch looked like, taken from the auction photo when it was sold:
Further we know the case back serial number was "190945" (Sept. 1971) as shown in his hand-written letter right under the date:
So I set out to re-create Bill Pogue's famous watch using parts literally sitting around in my parts drawer. I ordered nothing, everything was just socked away in the parts bin. Gold -6005 RESIST dial. Faded yellow rotating chapter ring. Beat up tachy ring and 'red/black ring' around the minutes accumulator subdial. Right down to the oddball hack job watchmaker's contemporary generic replacement straight stick subdial hand. All just sitting around pulled off restored beasts of the past.
Best of all? I found a spare 19XXXXX case back !

So I celebrate International Pogue Day today wearing what has to be the closest thing I can come up with !
