I picked up a couple 6349 mov’ts from a well known eBay seller in Europe. Both listed as serviced and ready to use. I’m never inclined to believe this so figured I’d need to service them anyway. One was better than the other but still ran poorly for a ‘serviced’ mov’t. The other ran worse and upon disassembly, among other things I found a comically large tuft of lint, like a big ball off a wool sweater, and this: The tip of the seconds pinion didn’t even show above the cannon pinion. I think you should probably notice something like that when your working on a watch mov’t

I'd be inclined to add them to a "Name & Shame" list

Whenever purchasing a vintage watch/movement I always assume the movement will need a full servicing and account for that service cost when bidding on the item. I've purchased a few watches listed as "overhauled" where whatever service had been done, if had been done at all, was abysmal. I never trust a "service" by a random seller.

Sometimes the "service" is a spritz of WD40 down the pendant. Whenever purchasing a vintage watch/movement I always assume the movement will need a full servicing and account for that service cost when bidding on the item. I really wish I’d taken a photo of the lint ball. It was something you might try and create if you were asked to draw the perfect caricature of lint. It was like a soot sprite from My Neighbor Totoro.
