we just want to wear only one watch? I go through this almost weekly; then it changes Is the solution to sell all but one watch then abandon watch forums and/or the Internet completely??? Naw...I'll put up with it

I have 60. Wear maybe 5. Would love to sell 30. Keeping 12 would be ideal. Aaargh.

Sometimes I think of it, but that would mean an end to my forums and tinkering. I'm not ready to retire.

camrok has a plan to wear one watch each month next year. Perhaps he can report back on the experience.

Back on the old SCWF, Thomas did that only he wore one watch every day for 62 days. He also supplied day and night shots if I remember correctly. I love these wear them challenges

Alternatively I think MikeyT used to wear 62 watches a day IIRC.

Don't think I'll ever get to that point where I want to wear only one. I like variety. But I have set a hard limit of 7 watches. If I ever acquire more than that, one has to go. And every watch in my collection needs to be worn at least once a month. If I find that I'm not wearing a watch at least once every month or two, then it has to go.

Whenever I wear my 6306 I catch myself thinking I could be a one Watch man.

It would be a real challenge. I currently have 30 watches, mostly divers, some chronos, most are Seiko. I rarely wear my 6138's as they are generally too bulky but I love looking at them. I seldom wear my 6139-6005s but I love them too much to ever think of not having them (one gold one blue). Could pair down the divers but I have specific attachments to all of them for one reason or another even though only a few of them get regular wear. Hell, I seldom wear my 6105-8110 but could not bear to part with it and when I wear it I feel like I don't need any other watches (until I get an overwhelming yearning to wear something else that is crying for attention).
The notion of a single watch or a very small number of watches puts me in a tizzy and I start thinking of a massive selloff to fund one or two "aspirational" watches but I know I would be uncomfortable having that much money tied up in just a couple of watches.
I do feel like my aesthetic sense and wrist burden desire is moving ever downward and towards simplicity. I recently bought a Hamilton Khaki. 38mm no date hand wind field watch that other than the size looks like it could be from WWII. Slim and no fuss, winding like butter, I could have even enjoyed it at 36mm. I am starting to understand why some people consider a Rolex Explorer to be a perfect watch. I'm not one of them but I get the appeal of a simple field watch.
The trick is to not worry about all the watches you have but don't wear. They are worth keeping even if you only wear them for a few hours every once in a great while. Otherwise just enjoy looking at them and appreciate them as objects.

"Variety is the spice of life" they say. While I have not added to the WRUW in some time, I have been on a one watch a work week, to get through the rotation. Started with 6309's and moved to 700x's where I'm still plugging away. (I'm not wearing the NO$9 collection). There is a pull on the weekends to toss on something different, many be the Casio worldtime, the 7³, or the 009.
If I went minimalist I still think I'd own three, Dress, Casual/everyday, and one for the extremes, rough outdoor conditions. I'd rather not wear the 7³ or 009 with a suit, and I wouldn't wear my Oris or GP while hiking the mountains or in the water...
Like others have mentioned I could let go of many that see little wear but they take up little room and none are really that valuable. That said I have let a few go before and I could see it happening again just not sure it'll be soon.

Wearing a watch for a whole week is a great compromise. Works for me.

Imagine this conversation: Person: what do you do for a hobby? You: I collect and restore watches. Person: how many watches do you have? You: just the one.
I don’t know how many of you have owned a watch and decided you no longer wear it, so you sell it off- then you find yourself madly searching to replace it. Even though you didn’t wear it, it held a valuable spot in your collection.

I could never bring myself to wear only one watch. Even before I got into this hobby, I owned five. I’ve certainly downsized my collection this year, and I must admit I’m often drawn to the same watches all too frequently. I still need to off-load more, but I look at them and often say to myself ‘Nah, I’ll hold on to it, I quite like it’ even when I haven’t worn it for 12 months! I don’t think I’ll ever reduce the collection that drastically, and will certainly never be left with just one. Besides, I’ve too much bloody money tied up in tools...

If I sold them all for one watch, I'd just be a guy with a nice watch.

Definitely! Although I could probably sell a couple more, but that would still put me at 10.
Doubt I could let anymore go. Having said that I find when I have a watch on now I keep it on for 3-5 days at a time. Much more enjoyable that way for me.
