Been a member on this forum for some time...getting educated. The Search function is a gem. I have always enjoyed watches as a tinkerer, but not from a collectors perspective. The mechanics of watches always fascinated me. Having a high stress job, servicing watches as a hobby has been a stress reliever. Cheap watches were my go to given if i broke them I wouldn't care (50-60's manual winds found at trunk sales.) That was until I received my Great Great Grandfathers pocket watch from my father to get working again. It hadn't run in over 80 years. I took my time doing research on the movement, inspecting the movement for broken missing parts, sourced parts movements, the gambit...and got it working again. That changed my view on tinkering...to more caring for the watches with a slow and steady hand. My vintage Japanese watch intro came from finding a externally rough Seiko 6139-6000 proof (Oct 1969) at an estate sale. Not knowing what it was (other than a busted Seiko) I bought it...pretty cheap too. Then after some initial research, I learned the storied history of this watch and Seiko in general. I was hooked. So began my journey to bring my 6139 back to life...and to continue to learn more an more about vintage Seiko's. Glad to be a part of this group and appreciate learning from you all. Courtpilot.
