This would be fun, always exciting to see what treasures might be inside.

My hunch is disappointment but then there's no fun in thinking that way.

I've always wanted to do this with one of those Yahoo JP "Lot Sales" where there's a pile of about 30-50 watches that some person is selling off from a deceased relative. Some of them go for a pretty low price of 5000-10000 JPY. Most of it would probably be junk, but who knows, maybe there would be a Grand Seiko hidden somewhere in there. It would be like a treasure hunt.

My thoughts too. If you can't see anything worthwhile on the surface then there's unlikely to be anything useful at the bottom of the pile -sellers make sure of that.

True, but would still be a fun exercise if you could pick up one of these piles for 5000 JPY. The only problem is that shipping from Japan is expensive, so I wouldn't want to pay the prohibitive cost to ship 50+ watches just for the fun of sorting through some junk haha. Would probably cost more for the shipping than for the watches themselves.

Customs might be a problem as well. In Germany you have to pay 0.80€ per watch if the total amount is above 150€.

Lol, or throw in a red herring... a potentially nice watch in the background or partially obscured that you can't fully make out.

Agreed, I think it would be very naïve of someone to just sell a bunch of watches for cheap that they know nothing about. Then again, if it was in an auction setting, and there was not much interest.
