My recent 8222-7000 purchase arrived this morning, and is indeed non-working as described by the seller. So I’m about to tackle my first quartz movement. I’ve stripped it all down ready to clean but before I start popping stuff in the cleaner I thought I’d seek some advice. Is there anything I need to be aware of, such as anything that shouldn’t go in the ultrasonic? (I’m guessing the coil for one...) What’s the best way to tackle cleaning the circuit board? There’s a bit of green stuff on there... And I’m guessing that the circuit shouldn’t have that break in it either?

The green stiff normally cleans off easily with a bit of ipa. I’ve not put circuit boards in US before, I just clean by hand. Seiko coils break very easily as they don’t normally have a protective coating so careful with them. Handle it like it’s explosives.

Don’t put the stepper rotor in the US.
I use circuit board cleaning spray I had from Radio Shack to clean the circuit if needed.

Well, seems like I bought a complete dud. Strip down and re-assembly all went well, still nothing doing. Swapped the circuit block with the one out of the 8222 I’m wearing today, still nothing - so that to me sounds like a bad coil? Circuit block out of the dud into my good movement - nothing doing, so that tells me the block is also no good.
Well, at least it all cleaned up nicely...
Anyone know if any of the readily available quartz movements can be used in lieu of an 8222? I’m guessing nowt is a straight-forward drop in.

Should still be useful as a source of parts though so all is not lost. I'm not sure if I've got any 8222's in the spares pile but I'll take a look if you'd like?

If you’ve got any I’d probably be interested - they don’t seem to be plentiful. Coils and circuit blocks don't seem to be available so I guess I’ll have to find another working movement from somewhere!

Crystal is trashed, it's grubby and the movement is untested so it'd be up to you.

What about using this for the green stuff?
Says it's safe for sensitive electronics.
