Hi Folks, Hope everyone is doing well in this new year. I just picked a 1971 KS 5626-7040 in excellent condition. It was sold as a NOS watch and I would rate the case as almost perfect.....or at least it was until I wore it yesterday. When it came to me the watch case was probably 9.5/10. Inspecting the watch after the day I could see many many micro scratches on the polished sides of the watch. I’m so torn whether I should keep wearing it or put it aside. Your thoughts are appreciated Carlos

Did you buy it to be a safe queen? If not then wear it, little boo boos are inevitable and you shouldn't fret about them.

It sure is lovely. I’d wear it but sparingly. I know some say wear the heck of of them but most have enough in rotation that you can keep one or two for special occasions.

I'd wear the hell out of it.
These things were meant to be worn. You're fixated at macro level scrutiny.
People walking around with $40k Pateks on daily.
Enjoy it.

As said above, watches were meant to be worn. If it was a watch that was more of an investment grade piece, like a 4580-7010 VFA, then maybe it would be wise to designate it as a safe queen. But a run-of-the-mill KS? Nah, it's simply not worth stressing out over it.

Just hit the polished surfaces with Autosol or Flitz. It's not heavy enough to stuff up the case lines but will take off the scuffing.

This. I will normally use Eagle One wadding polish (used to clean wheels), or Brasso. If I really want to make a polished surface pop, I will hit it with a Dremel polishing pad and some fine jeweler's rouge at very low speed, followed by Brasso or wadding polish.
An application, by hand, of any decent metal polish should clean the case up nicely without damaging the lines.

Thank you all for the input. LOL. Its definetely not anywhere near a 40k Patek but it wasn't so much the value I'd be looking to protect as much as the condition the watch came in. Its just the feeling of wearing a 50 year old watch that came in pristine condition and accidentally dinging it up or scratching it. I have more valuable watches that I have no problem wearing on the daily but for some reason this particular watch seems different.
In the end I think you guys are right, its a watch and it should be worn. I have used cape cod to polish other things not watch related, any of you folks try that on watches? Not that I'll be using it on this watch but just out of curiosity.

I probably wont wear it ALL the time but I enjoy wearing it so I'll keep it on the wrist for now. Carlos

That is a really cool piece, not very common in NOS condition either! But even more interesting, is that you have the box and manual also. That adds value to a potential collector if you would ever sell it. Please share photos of the manual and box, for future reference, as these are not common. There should be a price tag and KS/Seiko signed buckle for the complete set. I say wear it, and dont polish! Even the slightest dulling of the edges will ruin it imo.

There's your answer. Just don't wear it when you are painting the house or during plumbing repairs !
