That turned out nice, I'm glad you took the effort to resuscitate it! The dial color is beguiling! chinathumbsup.gif

At first I wasn't the biggest fan but under a new crystal it's interesting. It helps that the movement is so great. Total stroke of luck on the insert too. The last thing I need to do is relatively minor - I need to swap out the tension rings from the old crystal to the new one. The old one is wider and acts like a chapter ring insert. The new one, not so much. Once that's done, we should be good.

So, is it a keeper? I definitely think it deserves some wrist time, from the man who saved it's life.

So, is it a keeper? I definitely think it deserves some wrist time, from the man who saved it's life. If I can get this tension ring swapped into the new crystal and have it hold, then I'm inclined to keep it. The tropic strap is slightly too short for me, but I have a butterfly deployment clasp coming in that hopefully will help with that. I'd really like a more permanent solution to the missing dial foot & dial holding ring. If I were able to machine a stainless replacement for the ring I'd do that but it doesn't solve the issue of the dial coming up and hitting the underside of the hour hand. It's a unique watch, special. I can't find any other examples of it online. I did find a non-diver Helbros with almost the same dial in another color, but nothing quite like this. The size is great - 41mm not counting the crown. Movement is in excellent shape, very good. Day/date works great now that the shrunken dial holding ring isn't interfering with the date-setting. I just want it to be fully dependable - then I could wear it without wondering about it.

Actually, after a ton of work, more people than just our own DonCiccio might like this baby. After a service the movwment is putting out a jaw-dropping 280-300 and up amplitude - amazing. I still have a small issue with the dial holding ring in that it's made of that kind of old-school plastic that shrinks with time, and also one of the two dial feet are missing. Judicious use of dial dots is helping us here. The insert is vintage and matches what was there originally. The tropic strap claims that it is Swiss-made - who knows but it's in great shape and fits the lugs perfectly. looks great buddy!
