Roy Grace No.12 on Kindle. Last one for a while until Peter James writes another one.

The Secret Agent, eloquent and politically perceptive, or, over-written and superficial? I'm more the latter than the former. Now, proud to be pulp

Wrong Quarry - A reformed assassin for hire hunts a serial killer, but is waylaid by various damsels in distress. Much fun is had by all. Next - the film has opened to terrible reviews, but the book is supposedly OK...

Wrong Quarry - A reformed assassin for hire hunts a serial killer, but is waylaid by various damsels in distress. Much fun is had by all. Next - the film has opened to terrible reviews, but the book is supposedly OK... My daughter is reading this. Let me know if it's any good and I'll borrow it from her. Starting this one for my car. Cost me more than I should have paid, but I've been looking for this one for YEARS ! And not actually a book, but this for Her Ladyship's car. Already on disc 4 and can now ask for a double room with bath ! On a serious note, I felt right very uncomfortable not being able to say more than "Please" and "Thank you" (essential IMHO) while on holiday in Menorca, and thought I should do something about it. We also got dumped at the wrong hotel by a bus driver who spoke very little English and if it hadn't been for the help of the receptionist at said hotel, we would have been right out of our depth.

Girl on the Train - A plainly written but nevertheless effective page turning thriller, with a neat structure and a story line that remains believable as it unfolds. Next, the delightful Mr Hoban

Having finished all the books in the Roy Grace series by Peter James, I discovered that I had no more Kindle books on my netbook. Disaster ! But I have nearly 100 e-books in an old application, Mobipocket. This turns out to be handy as the files are all convertible to Kindle format and so I can read them. Although I've already read them all, I have chosen a few to tide me over. Starting with this one.

Amaryllis Night and Day - Can you imagine continually looping through reality and dream, twisting into the past yet inevitably moving forward? This mesmerising love story does it beautifully. #1 contender for my top read of 2016. A short sharp Spark next

D'OH ! Senior moment. My daughter said The Girl on the Train is good. Needed something on my netbook to read at work, so off I go to Amazon and type in "Girl on a train." Can you see where this is going ? Just my luck to find (too late) that there are two books with very similar names. Should have realised it was too cheap @99p. There's even a picture a few posts back ! Though it is quite good so far so not an entire waste of a quid.

Girls of Slender Means - A simple but well written character study novella about the occupants of a women's lodging house at the end of WW2. A ovine outing next

New audio book for my car: A real book for lunch times: Bits of this are ringing a bell, which suggests I've already read it. But I've started so I'll finish.

Wild sheep chase - Excellent in every way, and, unusually for Murakami, there's even an explantion! Next, the final part of the Smiley vs Karla trilogy

Trying something different by a favorite author. Have read a couple of his others and enjoyed them.

Smiley's People - George comes out of retirement for a solo showdown with his nemesis, a fitting finale but not quite as dazzling as the previous two volumes. Next, when life gives you lemons, shoot!

Lemons Never Lie - Wasn't so keen on this one, I didn't take to Alan Grofield, the main character. It lacked the snappy prose of a good crime novel as well. Next, the only thing I know about Elena Ferrante is that it's a pen name, and there was a huge furore recently when an over zealous journalist revealed her true identity to universal disgust and condemnation.

I've been driving Her Ladyship's car for the last couple of weeks so have been missing out on audio books (learning Spanish instead). Back to my car and a new one. Far better IMHO than the DaVinci code and spin offs.

Days of Abandonment - The simple telling of the emotional earthquake caused by the sudden failure of a family marriage. Excruciating but totally compelling. Next, something from this year's Booker shortlist.
