Since finding one of the original 6309 diver type two piece crown/stem setups is getting to be like finding rocking horse droppings or hen teeth; I got to wondering...
Both the 6309 crown and the 7002 crowns have the upper part of the stem screwed into them. I'm wondering if the 6309 stem tube could be shortened(particularly those mangled and mushroomed one Ramon sometimes auctions); could a melange of 6309 crown and 7002 stem be made?
Obviously the longer stem tube on the 6309 is a problem for the 7002 crown but if my observations are right, the stem tubes are the same diameter(might be wrong).
I'm only thinking about this because I have a 6309-729x case that had a mushroomed stem tube and I had an AM 6309 crown(supposedly) that would not screw down. By that I mean it simply could not be pushed in far enough to engage the tube threads. So I ground down the mushroomed tube and eventually the crown was able to catch the tube threads and screw down.
I have a couple of 6309 cases that I want to bring back to usefulness even if it means this kind of kludge.
Do any of you folks have any input on this that might save a couple of worthy Seikos?

The 6309 divers have a two piece stem with a washer and a spring while the 7002 divers have a on piece stem and a spring incorporated into the crown. I tried doing the switcheroo but it won't fly because the 7002 crown tube is way too large to fit into the 6309 stem tube :-(

I had Three like that, and just sitting in a box. I said why not and started to do them. I took a tube material that was the same size of the original one, ( made sure it aligned ), pressed it in, cut to length and sealed it , and still used the original ( Two Piece Seiko Stem ). Heck I even used it to dive about (Twenty time already), and it did not leak. All Three been used for diving already, no problems, even pressure tested too.
I'm a Machinist also so I have to do what I know.
I am not throwing away a good case just because the tube is shot. I go to work on it and do something about it. I am working on making new " Stem Tube Inserts " also, and I am going to do it. I found a way for the thread size, and now its to do the whole Thing.
I am making a couple ( Remover's and a Installer's for spares also ). I know how to seal stainless steel to stainless steel. Note: Heck Seiko did it and still does, it's no secret once found out how to do it.
Development is a slow process for doing a lot, ...... Its called ....... " Inventing ". Slow process and also time consuming, but it will be done.
Also I have been making some Bracelets by making the links for them. Nothing is difficult unless one try's to do something about it. And if you know some things about what you are doing it comes helpful goes along way also. Attachments:
