The search for my first chrono goes on . . . saw one of these in a post the other day and found it quite fetching . . . I'm a chrono virgin but I don't mind this one at all and it's a great, affordable price . . . any thoughts, impressions greatly appreciated. a194The post was by the very well watch endowed C4L18R3 . . . please let me know your feelings on the sucker man . . . and the delightful strap you have on it. These were reviewed I seem to remember on the SCWF and the verdict was not good basicly non screw in back case, (snap back) the fit and feel was cheap and nasty. also the quartz movement was a non stand out 7T59 I believe. Save some more funds if you can and go with a vintage Seiko Chronograph. Just my thoughts (and others) Cheers Mark Thanks for taking on the Devil's advocate role big fella . . . I did have some vague recollection of them being discussed on SCWF but didn't recall anything adverse . . . I'll prolong the trigger pulling activity for further research.

Here are two reviews of the SCEB009 that I got from Google: WUS - forums.watchuseek.com/f21/seiko-sceb009-789710.html SCWF - www.thewatchsite.com/index.php?topic=40909.0 On both reviews/threads, the owners say they're happy with the watch. Of course, you can’t please everyone because the watch is quartz and is made at a certain price point where say, a snap back caseback is practical. I myself read these reviews and like I said, ignored the nay-sayers and bought it. I have both the auto and the quartz version. One thing I can say about the new model is that it is not “cheap and nasty.” IMHO it is unfair to compare the two and expect the new one to be better than (or at least at par with) the classic. For starters the 40 year old costs twice as much as the new model! The difference in price point will obviously have you ending up with two different watches/features. Reading through the reviews/comments on the threads I mentioned, there are a lot who share the same opinion as me – for the price, it’s a very nice watch to own and well built. Funny how people over at WUS were a bit more open compared to the IMHO "very demanding standards" of the folks over at SCWF (I assume mainly because of the love and admiration for the earlier Bullheads).

Alright . . . cheers for the reference material both of you . . . having read through both links I must confess that the absence of a screw down caseback is of no concern to me as I wouldn't be even slightly tempted to inflict any work on the poor thing. The bracelet would go first up without even putting it on and I would also have no qualms about getting the sucker wet . . . I have the suspicion I have fallen for it as my intro to chrono lust, without forking out the relatively huge coin on an original in decent shape . . . thanks guys.

the Izul is bad ass. I have no idea why I would need to rotate the case to use the chronograph, but the fact that I can only makes me want it more.
As for these reissues, they are interesting. Somewhat of a disappointment in the bracelet quality. I did like the rootbeer colored model the best but that was a limited edition. I suppose if they hang around long enough and the yen continues to weaken, I'll eventually give one a try.

drooling-sign-smiley-emoticon I forgot all about these babies. I wish they made them in an automatic model. Looks like another Seiko has made its way to my must have list. a115 Ain't it the truth? I think I'll start working on my Christmas list early this year.

Think I may have stumbled upon a 6138-0011 for a fair price . . . negotiations pending. Then I would go with one of those. The new quartz Bullhead is initially interesting but I doubt its charm will endure like a vintage Bullhead. They just look modern cheep quartz to me, which I suppose is what they are.

I'm a big quartz fan Mike and I do think the SCEB looks cool, not cheap but the 'ness' and the appeal of the vintage version leaves no real comparison . . . and it gets me well outside my prior comfort zone which is what all you enablers have helped me with, I'll report back as things progress.
