What's wrong with his work? Why would he use this photo in his ad? Is it a beater case that he was practicing with, or did he cause the damage when he replaced the case tube?

He gave me back the $65 I paid up front (this is after he sent the watch back to me 3 times broken), and then sent back my stripped out Seiko MM case and a broken movement.

In my opinion, he should have reimbursed you for what you had to pay Seiko and IWW to make the watch whole again.

well if he made the mess he should have made it right...when i was a auto technician for many years...my old boss took a car for a problem 4 other garages could not find...it took us over 2 weeks of on and off work and we finally fixed it...we had to fix all the things others had tried and failed and to my bosses credit...he only charged the guy what was fair...he knew by doing what was right he made the best investment and his business flourished because of it....too many people think just because they broke it it is not their responsibility...they are wrong...so sorry you had to deal with that .... Oh that isn't rude at all. He gave me back the $65 I paid up front (this is after he sent the watch back to me 3 times broken), and then sent back my stripped out Seiko MM case and a broken movement. In my opinion, he should have reimbursed you for what you had to pay Seiko and IWW to make the watch whole again. I totally agree with you but he didn't. Seiko wanted to replace the whole case and fix the movement for $650. IWW fixed up the botched triple gasket crown install (Rolex crown/tube) and made it water resistant again for around $125. Oh and I forgot to mention that Ken Setser also left finger prints in the lume on the dial and the dial itself. IWW was able to clean it all up. But the broken movement had to go to Seiko to get fixed and rebuilt and that cost me around $250 I think. All in all the watch was gone for around a 1 year and I was having to deal with Ken from Iraq. Luckily someone stepped forward and was a middleman for me so I don't have to wait even longer. I think IWW only had the watch for maybe 2 months total. IWW saved my bacon with it. Ken said it wasn't his problem because he returned my money. I think he also opened another location in Georgia recently also.

Why would he use this photo in his ad? Is it a beater case that he was practicing with, or did he cause the damage when he replaced the case tube? I bet it is a customers watch. For one thing the case was ground to fit .... " The TUBE INSTALLER ", Device, he used to install the new tube . The ..... " TAP " , did not need spacing but the ... " Installer " to press it in did. They ground the area to fit the ( JIG ) .... to be used and that is what caused that .... " MESS ". The JIG holds the TUBE IN and OUT of the case to make a straight .... " PRESS IN OF THE TUBE ". I do not think looking at it that the TUBE was ... " Screwed " into the case. It looks like it was ... PRESSED. If it was .... " Screwed In ", then it had a flare shoulder on it and later ground off or ..... " Machined OUT SIDE..... " FLY CUT OFF " TOOL USED. ( I am using old Machinist terminology words for this .)
A .... " PRESS FIT " requires the tube to be so many Thousand'ths over size to seal also because .... Seiko .... " PRESS FIT 'S and " FLARE CRIMP's ..... the TUBE INSIDE THE CASE. That's called by many old timer Machinists .... " A Compression Fit ". Threaded in also requires a Sealant also.

I saw this, and literally laughed out loud.
Many moons ago, I sent him the inner rotating bezel from a 6117-6419 Navigator Timer. The bezel was mint except for the lume triangle was missing. All I wanted him to do was repaint the lume triangle, and paid for this meager service in advance. Simple, right? I had heard bad things about him from others in the Seiko community, but had heard good as well. I figured this was a pretty simple and straightforward task, so I decided to give him a shot.
After almost a year of attempting to contact him and being met with either silence or excuses, I figured I had been "Setser-ed", and wrote off the bezel and money.
Six months later, I get an email saying that he "lost" my original bezel, but had relumed a different, flawed one and was sending it to me.
Not sure if that's true, but I personally don't think this guy is above harvesting nice parts from peoples' watches....
That was my first, last, and only dealing with the infamous Mr. Setser.

Ah this is kinda embarrassing.
If someone can send me a lathe & press, I'll spit these things out all day long. I trained as a fitter & turner for a while.
The work there looks well below par and is certainly a poor advertisement for the service.
