This one arrived on Friday... It's a 5M43-0A90. It has a see-thru back and was running when I opened the package. The battery is fully charged with the 30 second indicator! The bezel needs to be refinished and the case is soaking in cleaner. Meanwhile I got a better look at the movement and dial... Don't mind the dust; the dial is almost perfect. There is a bit of glue/goo between the 3 and 4 positions but it will be cleaned up. This shot shows the beautiful shimmery star burst blue. It is not quite this light a blue but I'm kind of hampered by this camera... Does anyone know if this bezel is supposed to be fixed as it has been glued in place? It is perfectly flat on the bottom with no indication that it would ratched.

That one is way confusing. Dial marked Kinetic with Kinetic logo but SQ100 for a sports quartz 100M watch. If it has a 30 second charge it may have a battery with a full charge rather than a fully charged capacitor. Bezel is definitely not original to the watch as it is a 25 hour / GMT bezel. Based on the number layout where half of them are upside down indicates it was meant to rotate vs a bezel where the 30 is upright along with the 0 or 12 o'clock number. The Arabic day is usually paired with a "number of jewels" dial and made in Japan at 6 dial text. The 6 text does say Japan so I'll let that slide. The case is obviously a kinetic case with power reserve button. As to what else the watch left the factory with I can't comment on. EDIT: OK after Googling the case numbers I was wrong. The bezel is correct and the numbers are all face up but WHY would they put a GMT bezel on a non GMT watch

It has a white plastic gasket and is pressed into the case. The crystal is sapphlex and is pressed into the bezel. I'll let it run and see if it stops in 3 to 7 days. If it doesn't then it's a battery. If it does then it could be a capacitor or a worn out battery. Chances are that I will swap out the rechargeable cell for a standard one then it will run for three years or more

I have a parts watch if you are interested. It is a 5M43-0A99. I met a guy semi-locally to buy a 6138-0030 a few years ago. He said the watch was his fathers, and this one was too. I was only interested in the 6138 but he really wanted to sell them both. I think I gave him $15 for it, and I don't know why. Movement has issues, but it has a complete and longish bracelet. A little rough and a lot grotty. Let me know if you are interested.

OK after Googling the case numbers I was wrong. The bezel is correct and the numbers are all face up but WHY would they put a GMT bezel on a non GMT watch That's not a GMT bezel. It's only marked for 12 hours. That would make it a "military" bezel. Read the first 12 hours on the watch face, and the second on the bezel. I doubt the bezel is intended to rotate. Dan

Dan I noticed that after I had posted it but didn't bring it up again so as not to point out that I put my foot in my mouth

I wonder why anyone needs "military" markings on a bezel or dial. Adding 12 isn't too hard. Then again . . . . I always set clocks and watches to display 24 hour time, if they work that way. I don't know why. I just do.

I always wonder, where does Ramon find this stuff?
Most of the stuff I've got from him has had long and consistent exposure to moisture, so I figured he must dredge them from a river or something, it's crazy stuff.

Watches tend to lead long, hard lives in countries like the Philippines. In many western countries, people will buy a watch and wear it for a couple years until it gets a little scruffy or falls out of fashion. Then it gets thrown into a drawer for 40 years. Not so in other countries... You have one watch, and you wear it until it literally becomes 'unserviceable'. The watches he gets likely just came off of the original owner's wrist!

I figured he gets his stuff from all over the Philippines, brought in, sent in. I assumed he's well established by this point and people know to send him stuff. The Philippines are hot, humid, and hard on watches. But it's a mystery - a new watch isn't cheap and yet people there seem to beat them to death. Why is that?

I would imagine that most folks in the Philippines, live much harder lives than many of us here. One watch for every occasion, and for many years.
