I have been feeling the need to purchase a G-Shock for quite some time now, and I was interested in THIS one. I prefer the old style rectangular display, and I'd like for it to be of the atomic/solar variety. What do you recommend?

Ordered myself one today, classic DW5600E-1V. Didn't have the guts to go with solar, so got one with a good old battery laugh1.gif Like has been said, best value for money if you want a want watch that can handle shocks, water, dust, rough sex etc.

The solar is great but I got a scare when I'd left it in a drawer and let the charge run to nothing, I had to leave it on the window sill for a week to bring it back to life. The battery version is great too. After all this time there's probably 4o seconds difference between the 2, I don't know what the battery life is supposed to be but I've never changed it and I reckon I've had the thing 4-5 years This is the battery version

It isn't a 'square' one, but this one's mine. I keep telling myself that I'm going to sell it but can never bring myself to do it.

Slightly larger and chunkier than the standard 5600. Has a real presence. Also has huge digits. I got my father one because of this and he wears the hell out of it. Radio sync only in US and Japan. If you can find one at a reasonable price, pick one up. New inventory is sporadic. They pop up on sales forums regularly.

Don't forget the option for analog dial with lots of digital displays embedded in the dial.

Don't forget the option for analog dial with lots of digital displays embedded in the dial. From what I have seen, those get far too cluttered for me.

Agree a G Shock is a nice addition. If you're looking for an analog G-Shock, I'd recommend mine, the GW-2000B-1AJF. Solar + Multiband = always charged, always accurate. The sweep seconds change to chrono seconds when you change modes, which closed the deal for me. I love me some sweep seconds, but I don't run my automatic chronos all the time for fear of wear.
