Ok, the big three have their expensive lines... Seiko has some that are out of sight moneywise for the retired individual... Citizen are better priced but it makes you think why are the Seikos more than twice the price... then Orien which I consider the #3 also has some expensive ones but they seem to be Diving Models. Casio has put their Oceanus to sleep...so what are the reasons for the super expensive Japanese stuff. Are they really worth it?

The reason, because they can. Are they worth it, yes.

I hve just been looking aat some higher end Orients... nice but they do not have a threaded shaft crown... there are some that cost with Island about $350 and others close to 500 but they do not have the Royal Orients... the Citizens if they are Eco-Drives, I do not want them... an expensive watch should be mechanical (automatic)... Seikos... high end is too expensive for me... they rival Roolexes in prices.

How much you want to spend? Excellent value doesn't necessarily mean cheap/inexpensive. Orient and Citizen tend to have terrible resale value and are great options to buy second hand. Orient Star hits a sweet spot for cost and quality. I picked up a LNIB Orient Star GMT for $399 and it's a home run. Citizen Signature also is a great option. Lots of different models and varying prices. My avatar is a first generation chronograph model. Everything about it is quality. There is a diver model which is less expensive, but it is quartz ecodrive. If you want a mechanical Signature, there is the Grand Classic line which houses the beautiful miyota 9010 caliber. Two models, black and white dial. I was just looking at these yesterday in the store and they are stunning. Here's a good review....not mine. watchreviewsbymcv.blogspot.com/2013/04/review-of-citizen-signature-series.htmlThere's the Seiko SARB models too. I had a SARB021. It was nice enough, but I think Orient Star and the Citizen Signatures deliver just a little bit more, although they may cost a little more too.

I'm biased for sure cauze I have only one Orient, none Casio and more than two dozens of Seiko. Go for Seiko but be selective.
