Do you think this is the public's perception, or does it really not matter in this day and age? Perhaps we now live in a society, where watches are merely a fashion statement? I would guess that for the average person it would be a "fashion preference" without regard to "making a statement" and certainly not with an understanding or interest in the features/working of a watch. We are a minority here, IMHO.I agree...I seriously doubt that most of the general public, has any real appreciation for what an automatic movement is/does.

Good luck to the younger generation that relies on their phones to tell time. Once someone sets off an EMP over America, people without a mechanical w as tech will be SOL.

Yeah, not having to "recharge" your watch every night is a real plus.

Past girlfriends used to enjoy the ticking sound, beyond that they thought most of my collection besides a few of the cooler pieces looked "old fashioned" and "from the 70's"...yeah no shit, just how I like it!

Past girlfriends used to enjoy the ticking sound... I had a girlfriend once that liked to fall asleep with my 6138-8020 pressed right up to her ear.

Most folks, just don't get it. How can one not appreciate, a super nice example from the early days. Perhaps they just don't know how hard they are to find, or flat out don't care. Kinda like "Okay, it's hard to find in that condition...but why would you want it"?

I'm old enough to have grown up in a pre-digital time and wearing a watch was just what men did. Most boys got a watch from their parents as a sort of "coming of age" momento.
I wear a watch so I know what time it is but also as a way to enjoy the mechanical aspect and the beauty / jewelry aspect. It's also really nice when someone notices and gives a compliment. I got a haircut on Saturday and my barber made a comment on my Sumo.
I also get a kick out of just looking at whatever is on my wrist!

Yeah right - she just fell in love with the Panda and preferred it to you being close to her (And I would totally understand if my wife would do that. The Panda is lovely.
