Some folks just don't know proper sales etiquette, and I was on the receiving side today. I saw THIS SXK, minutes after it was listed on WR. I sent a PM right away, stating that I will take it if it's available. I have been wanting one, and this one felt right. I get a response from the seller, saying one other member was interested, but she would let me know in a few minutes if it was available. A few minutes later, I get a PM giving me payment info. Before I head off to PP to send payment, I ask where the SKX & Oyster were originally purchased. Don't ask me why, it's always nice to know IMO. She responds promptly with the answer, and also tells me not to send payment...because it's already sold. I PM back, asking how it can be sold already, when she just offered it to me. She responds with "I was working with two other members at the same time and first to pay confirmed took the watch." How the phuk does someone think that's okay?!? This entire back n forth, took a whole 10 minutes FFS. Whatever.....I guess it just wasn't meant to be this time.

That's bizarre. So she gives multiple people payment details - what happens if multiple parties simultaneously make payment? She then refunds someone? Just a brutal way to conduct business.

That's rude behavior. Does the forum she was selling on have a sub-forum for reporting on good/bad deals?
Have a look on eBay. You might be able to buy one brand-new from a trusted seller for not much more than a used one.

But after putting it off for so long, then finally pulling the trigger, it was a bummer that it turned out this way. Crazy behavior, seriously what if multiple buyers pay at the same time I know, I don't get it...

That stinks. Some people have no manners or etiquette.

I've had this happen a number of times with Australian sellers a while ago on ebay. Everyone here thinks SEIKOs are worth megabucks, like in Swiss territory.
All great deals, only to get the "Yeah sorry it broke when I was packing it" or "Sorry, no longer for sale" after I'd won the auction.

I would be very cautious about a seller like that. You may have just had a stroke of good luck.

With the weak yen I would just pick up a brand new one from Rakuten. Amazon also has some decent deals. That after market bracelet you could find from Strapcode or similar for a decent price.

Perhaps the seller, if they are going to "play that game" should, IMHO, include a statement in the sales ad to the effect that "whoever shows them the money" first gets the watch. (But then can't they do the same by setting up an auction and selling to the highest bidder?)

there's no point in getting hung up on principles with internet watch sales. its either there or its not and to be frank, I'm amazed forum deals work with as much success as they do. at least this is a common enough model with probably 5-10 listings per week. besides, if you're like me I'm sure you'll like your 7548 models more anyway.
as far as the etiquette of a sale, I've always been confused by the first to pay wins approach. I reserve the right to sell to who ever I want regardless of any other social norm or accepted practice. If I'm going to have to deal with the headache of something going wrong with a transaction, I want the option of selecting the dance partner.

If the choice was to sell to a known forum member vs a stranger, I suspect few would go with the stranger. But if an offer is accepted, I think the seller should go through with the transaction.

I got this one today. I'm selling a retired HP Z800 Xeon workstation. It's had about 35 bids on it.
"you can cancel and put item is no longer available I think the 41 dollars is shipping only wont need a pallet most pc store have boxes for x-atx cases but you can wrap it in bubble wrap or plastic so the label can go in it I got the quote with smart send I sent a wheel with them with only a sheet of plastic to stick the label on and it made it in one piece. but the bid are already near 200 that's all I can afford to spend. ill have to keep my eye out for others I may have to wait a while ill have to save more money to buy a unit."
Actually, no, I won't be cancelling the item. Thanks anyway.
"I have ended before you reserve the right to end as its listed else where but judging by bids you will get more than I can afford at this stage."
I sure will, thanks dude! And no, I actually break the contract I have with ebay with that kind of behaviour, and it's not listed elsewhere.

Other than a request to end an auction early, I don't know WTF he's saying. (Don't bother to explain.)
