The watch in question is a 6306-7001. The watch, as far as I know, has the original crystal and the is what appears to be a small surface scratch. Can this crystal be polished? You can see the scratch crossing the day/date window.

Polishing a Seiko Hardlex mineral crystal is possible, but you will need a high speed buffing pad and heavy jewelers compound to do it. Also, due to the enormous heat developed from the buffing pad you will more than likely get destortion and heat checks in the crystal. If you can handle a small scratch on an otherwise unmolested watch I'd be inclined to leave it as is. If it's bothering you contact Swedefreak for one of his 320W34 oem replacement crystals. these are exact duplicates and even have the correct frosted finish on the beveled edge. Coincidently, I have a absolutely mint unmolested 6309-7049 that has but one small flaw....a very light scratch on the otherwise perfect original hardlex. I elected to leave it alone to preserve the watches collector value. Shawn

That's a nice looking watch Shawn! Thanks for the info on polishing hardlex. More than likely I will get this watch serviced and leave the crystal as is.

As much as I like selling new crystals, I fully agree with Shawn's comments regarding originality of a scarce model.
To add, the cost of materials required to polish tempered mineral glass far exceeds the cost of a new crystal. And, that is not to mention the effort involved as well as the fact that polishing ANY material thins it out, the LAST thing you want to do to a crystal.
If you cannot live with the battle scar as it is, you can replace this crystal, but save it to be passed on to the next caretaker.
