I was bidding on this Silverwave when at the last minute my substantial bid (to me, anyway) was shot out of the water. The final bid was a bit over $425. I sent a message to the seller that if the buyer ended up not paying to please contact me.
Lo, and behold, the buyer did indeed cancel the transaction. The seller contacted me and offered to do a "second chance offer" deal with me. The thing about the SCO deal is that the offer is at your highest bid, so I did not have to pay $425 for this watch.
As an eBay buyer, you need to check your account settings and go to Communication Preferences and then Member Communications and make sure the SCO setting is at "Real Time".
Enough with the back story, here's some photos (a new crystal is already ordered and on the way):
The case back is worn about 96% smooth, if you hold it at just the right angle you can see stuff on the back. The case is filthy, and tonight I will clean it up. The lume does not glow, the pointer in the rotating ring does glow, but only for a short while. It's keeping sharp time and the rotating ring rotates perfectly. I'm really glad to add this one to the collection.
Internal photos tonight. I'm 2/3 to the way of having the Silverwave collection complete - just need a "30 proof" now!
Thanks for reading.
Dan

Thanks Tim. It always amazes me where these ultra-rare Seikos come from. This one came to me from Idaho!!
Go figure.

A well worn but obviously well cared for watch. That will look great with a new crystal.
I'd love one of these - the large crown really sets it off for me.

Gorgeous catch Dasher, what a beauty, Congrats !
Be careful with the Second Chance Offer though. While it can be legit, it is also the stuff used by unscrupulous sellers who shill bid the final price and then cancel out to expose the highest bidder.

I couldn't wait. Being a true WIS, I have a few caseback tools here at my desk:
1962.
Movement looks in pretty good shape.
I see the crystal has been delivered, so a proper ultra sonic bath tonight and a new crystal awaits!

Do all of these SilverWave's (the various dialed versions) have 'Seikomatic' on the face? I ask because I search for these in all the normal places using 'SilverWave' as my keyword, and I rarely see them out there. Wondering if I should instead be looking for a Seikomatic and then wade through the non-SilverWave's instead.

Very nice. She's going to look great with a new crystal. These are on my radar too, but they're very hard to come by.

Looks great!
I've got parts for these if you need them. Stems, barrels and I can get others.

One of the tricks I try to use is when I create a search topic in eBay that I like, I then "follow" that search. You can find this option right above the first listing when doing a search. It will be in green letters. Then, after you've "followed" as many variations of a particular search - Seiko / Sportsmatic / Silverwave / Silver Wave / etc... you will have a more comprehensive "feed" in your eBay front page. There goes my competitive advantage... Dan

I'll let you decide my WIS brother:
What a difference a clear crystal makes!

* In the lower photo you can see how the hands are "bent down" toward the dial at the tips.

Absolutely nothing beats a fresh new crystal, even when the prior one didn't seem too bad.
Love those '60's Dauphine Hands with the artful lume pattern. Really sets off the dial.
