I've had this modded SKX007 for some time now and although I really like it, there was always this nagging thought that it wasn't as "solid" as I'd want it to be in terms of "theme" and overall wrist presence. Inspired by my latest modded 007, I decided to re-do this one with the help of Yobokies.
Before:
I really like it but to be honest, from a design point of view it was just a mish-mash of various elements from different watches - from the Planet Ocean bezel, to the pilot hands and dial to the red spear second hands. It looked 'good enough' (at least to me) but I really felt something was missing. And so a few days with Yobokies...
After:
The watch was inspired by the 1953 Blancpain Fifty Fathoms but my intention was to only take styling cues from it. For this particular look, the lumed glass bezel matched perfectly with my existing dial imho and changed the overall aesthetic of the old mod from pilot to diver. I switched the hands too in order to make it look simpler and "older" without sacrificing legibility and not taking too much attention from the dial and bezel as well. It did take me a longer time to decide on a second hand because I wanted it to be the accent piece but not overpower the rest of the elements. I finally chose a yellow lance second hand because the color goes well with the C3 lume on everything and the shape gives the watch an updated (yet subtle) modern feel. Strap-wise, I would've put it on a vintage tropic but decided that Yobokies waffle strap also set it off quite nicely - robust, thick, 'old-looking' yet modern.
Here's a wrist shot showing the lumed glass bezel. The bezel really gives the watch a 'premium' feel in it's build quality and the way it reflects light - coupled with the domed sapphire crystal, it makes the watch look very expensive! Unfortunately, it is quite hard to capture on photos.
My wife liked the new mod so I asked her to ditch her TAG for the day and try the 007 out on a very nice leather NATO that matched her belt and boots. Here's a double wrist pic from Mr. & Mrs. Calibre.
So there you have it folks - my new "Neo-Vintage" diver. Thanks for looking! a063
