I've never had more trouble with balances than with the 7 series. Fussy, temperamental, prone to serious amplitude issues with the slightest variation. Is this true with the 7002 as well? There have been a lot of negative comments about these movements over the years. Could this be why? I think most of the negative comments stem from an article that Adriano did on the 6xxx and 7xxx calibres. In his article he called the 7002 a decontented 7005 or something similar. The movement is basically the same as the 7005 but with fewer parts. That does not make it the piece of crap that many think it is. It's a simple movement but just as competent as the 7s26 which is based on it. Like Spencer; I have had not trouble with the 7002 and I actually like working on them because they are so easy to take apart, service and reassemble. The 7002 has definitely been give an undeserved bad reputation.

Could this be why? actually I've had great luck with 7002's. 7019s are another matter. Interesting...I've done several 7019s and had no trouble with them; at least not with the balance system.

All of this could be that the 7 series are not ones that I typically fool with - either they're new and don't need fiddling, or they're old beaten examples that I wouldn't normally wear. However, I picked up two Actus examples that I liked, and had some fun with them. I just need to break down and go hardcore on them.

Thanks, Spencer and Peter. I have four7002s and they're among my favorites. My two 7002s are both really strong runners. My 7002-7039 is one the strongest and most-accurate watches I have. Runs like a dream, fantastic power reserve, excellent accuracy. It's a dream.

Spencer, I'm glad you like it!
I love mine although no one would know what it was without turning it over.

My impression of the 7019 is that is a slightly better caliber than the 7005. I'm not sure but I think that the 7019 was made by the Daini plants while the 7005 was a Suwa product. From what I've seen; the Daini guys made slightly better movements. Of course that may just be the small sampling I've seen.

I love 7S26 movements a lot. Once they are calibrated well and carefully, you will get amazing and incredible results.
I am also fond of Swiss ETA 2893 GMT movements as well. Again, you can get amazing results even from basic ETA movements once they are regulated well.
Seiko Quartzes: I love 7548, 7C43 and 7C46 movements a lot. They are solid, reliable, and very accurate. 8F35 movement is another dream movement: Perpetual calendar, brutal accuracy (My SBCM023 is SPOT ON for the last 5 months!), and 8 year battery life is unrivaled!
I almost forgot, I can not wear a timepiece with no date. I very much prefer day - date feature since I have to know day and date as per my work.
