Looks great.
Remember that the 60's and 70's were chockablock with mini brands just like we have today. 95% of them were wiped out in the quartz crisis and general lack of innovation through the 60' and 70's.
Imagine a mechanical watch mini brand in 1989? All that was selling back then were digi-ana's and full digital watches made by SEIKO primarily.
The market conditions are right again for them. Collectors have cash and keep zillions of watches now, unlike those times when a good watch was as essential wearing shoes.
We forget how important these things used to be pre mobile phones.

I have an RC clock on the wall for that. And a couple (three actually) of RC watches for redundancy.

Wow, thanks for the heads up.
My wallet thanks you, too, as it's losing weight fast!
There are some really interesting watches coming into existence these days, much more so than the department/jewelry store private label watches that were so common in the past.
I love being able to afford watches that share design cues with vintage pieces that would be unobtainium for me .

Posted this elsewhere before I noticed this thread. The 1970 looks good, and apparently uses a Seiko NH35 to keep it ticking. Also, it shows some design cues from nice vintage Longines divers I've been looking at seriously, but without the extra price tag, so may have to be a purchase I think.

I've read a couple of reviews that say the quality is great. The only thing that has held me back is this size - this thing is as big as my Tuna. Apparently there is a 41mm version on the way next year and I'm fairly sure I'll hold off until I see that.

I personally don't mind an oversized watch myself, so happy with this, but understand your reasoning. BTW< I like how you seem to be able to help me spend my money lately .. first the 62mas from WatchWorks, and now this one .. thanks mate. lol

Well my Dan Henry 1970 arrived today, and so far so good. Comes well packaged, so no damage sustained, and marked as US$45.00 cost .. in case those interested in buying are wondering about those things. I quite like bigger time pieces, so have no problems with this watch. As a comparison I'll measure it against a 6105 8110 "turtle", which is certainly no slouch when it come to case size. In case size the 1970 (44.3mm / 48mm incl crown) is not dis-similar to a 6105 (44mm / 46.5 incl crown), and in turn probably also a close in size to the current Prospex turtle as well. The dial on the 1970 however is much larger than on the 6105, with the 1970 dial taking up almost the full area of case. This, along with longer / wider 24mm lugs that the 1970 sports, means the 1970 does seem to wear larger on the wrist than a 6105 with it's short / narrow 19mm lugs. Case thickness on the 1970 is 14.5mm, as apposed to a quite thin (for it's case size) 12.6mm for the 6105. So the 1970 does sit fairly proud" on the wrist. Quality , so far, seems very good. The case has a good finish, with a nice mix of polished and brushed areas, as well as well defined case lines .. not on the quailty of SEIKO, but still very acceptable. The chrystal is a beauty, with a dome I really like - Chrystal is a mineral with saphire coating, and the finish seems quite acceptable. The dial / hands are clean & crisp, with a good finish. As is the outer rotating chapter ring, which is smooth to rotate. The tropic band looks really good, and is both supple and comfortable to wear. I have an 8inch wrist and find there is easlily enough strap left over to push through the keeper. There are some vids on YouTube which go more indepth, and will give more visual of the 1970, so check them out if interested. The Dan Henry 1970 has a classic look that I really like, and overall I think this watch as quite acceptable for the price. Not the same quality or finish of a SEIKO JDM model of course, but still quite acceptable when compared to some other watches I've owned over the years which have cost about the same to purchase. Cheers, Michael

That looks super cool Jim. The blue is definitely the one I would choose too.

I realised that I neglected to mention that this Dan Henry 1970 is a 'compressor' style dive watch, so the crowns on this beauty are non-screw down. Also that both crowns have a attractive cross hatch pattern on the flat area. Being of a larger size the crowns are easy to grip, making both manual winding and rotation of the inner 'reflector' ring a dream.
I have worn this watch since receiving it a few days ago, and in that time it looks like it is gaining aprox. 2 seconds per day so far. Not bad straight out of the box .. but I will keep an eye on it.
