It's in WA camrok. Presumably waiting for Ross to get a chance to swim with the whale sharks.

Yes, with me. And today is the day. Weather and appointments sorted, so it is off to the beach. It’s out with the old, and in with the new. Just brushing up with the instructions now.

Today, the World Diver Challenge Watch had a brief paddle in the Indian Ocean just off Perth, Western Australia. I’d thought about heading to Cottesloe, which is probably Perth’s best known beach, but City Beach is quite close to where I live, and I reckon it is a pretty good place for a swim. On arrival at the beach, we’re greeted by the following sign. “No” lots of things, but not “No Sharks”, so we can expect that they are out there waiting. This is a Friday around midday, so not terribly busy. Clean white sand and clear water. No surf today. A very pleasant 34 degC. Bit of a bonus today. What is this? It’s actually an oil rig, recently arrived from the North West Shelf, Australia’s main oil-gas provence, a couple of thousand kilometres north of here. It’s currently undergoing maintenance before heading to the Bass Strait, another oil-gas region between mainland Australia and Tasmania. This is the 21,000 tonne Ocean Monarch, which appeared in the Bruce Willis movie, Armageddon, a movie beloved of drill rig ooerators as it seemed that it was easier to train drillers to become astronauts than for astronauts to become drillers. Not a bad little watch. This first swim was pretty short, as I wanted to make sure i was using it correctly. And just a duck dive. I thought it was a bit deeper than this, but the watch is the evidence. The water here is quite shallow here anyway. You have to go out a fair bit further for any depth, out with the shark bait - I mean ocean swimmers. I hope the watch enjoys its next swim as much as it enjoyed this one. Where to next? Regards, Ross

If this little guy hits the North American leg of its journey during the summer (the "real" summer, not your Southern Hemisphere version) I'd be up to the challenge. I'm in a coastal town so I spend half of my summers in the water.

Thanks rossr it’s fun watching the yellow travel around a bit. Showed my wife and first thing she said was ‘let’s go to Perth’ I’ll review the thread, I think there was someone who was doing a cruise or a holiday OS who would benefit from it next.

kulprit I hear you and your preference to dip when the ice is off the surface of the water.

Scubarob99 might be a good choice after I get it as he's in the next state south and it will still be summer so he can let it experience the "Joisey Shore". I can get it wet at any time. I hit the ocean for a swim at least once every month. Just completed my December swim last Tuesday. Water temp 52F. Rob

Ok. Here it is. Botched up the dive settings, I took my aqualand as well, just in case...botched that up too! Anyhow, first I had lunch in my favorite soccer watering hole. Then I set off for the beach. Not a lot of takers...i prudently checked the water temp. Forecast.

Shooting pains and immediate retreat of testicles! Registered nothing, but there was no way I was doing it again! Aqualand got 4 feet. It was fun, but probably more fun in July. Rob

Good effort Rob! I can’t help thinking you’re a loaf short of a full basket though...

Good effort Rob! I can’t help thinking you’re a loaf short of a full basket though... I couldn't help thinking that if my heart gave out, I would be identified as a wealthy drowning victim based on two watches I was wearing. Rob

Geez, that's a lot colder than the water in my neck of the woods - and the next stop is Antarctica. You're a brave man.
