That roped you in, didn't it 😃 I picked this up off the counter in a tip shop (resource recycling centre, to use its proper name) today. I've never seen a mechanical pedometer before, and imagine it's a long time since Heuer was making them. I thought some of you might like to take a look inside. Made in Germany. Calibration? Check out that dial 😃 "Bumper" at 11 moves the finger at 1, which drives the "index wheel" at 4. This finger/index wheel setup looks sort of like how an Accutron index wheel works I think. The other fine finger at 7 that contacts the wheel stops it from going backwards when the first finger disconnects. Lots of gears inside. It wasn't working and I figured out the first finger wasn't contacting the wheel when you moved the bumper. A little extra tension added to the finger and the wheel is now advancing properly and so are the hands on the dial. How accurate is it? No idea.

Pretty cool, Heuer made all sorts of weird crap like this in the 70's

I wonder if this predates the Seiko Kinetic?

I guess I still don't get how it works? Looks like you wear it on your belt? But how does it know what your walking? It works on gravity. That big 'C' shaped lever with the weights on the end will move un and down as you walk, advancing the gears and hands. As far as accuracy goes, I doubt it would be any better than perhaps 10%. The lever on the side is most likely to adjust for individual stride length. An interesting and fun toy but an electronic pedometer with computer control with precision accelerometers will produce much more accurate results.

Quite true, but in its day, it was likely as good as any then available.

Wicked cool pick-up Tritto ! Accuracy can be checked by walking with your smartyphone's app or Fitbit !

I'd say that is a great find, especially for $1.

Good pick-up mate - I'd grab that as well.
