Hey all. I've been sitting on this one for a few weeks and have finally decided to show it off. A year or so ago I saw a story on the Dan Henry range on one of the blogs and immediately fell for the 1970 (each of his watches is named after the time period that inspired it). The only thing holding me back was its massive size - 44mm, with 24mm lugs and very tall. Basically as big as my Tuna in a watch I felt should be more modestly sized. Well I've followed his work and was happy to hear he'd listened to everyone saying great watch, but it would be better if it was smaller. The new version is 40mm, with 22mm lugs. Within 15 minutes of the notification that the first batch was available I had pressed buy. Then it was only a week before they were shipped and a few days until I was tearing open the packaging. The watch ships on a rubber Tropic-style strap, but I found a NOS 22mm big hole Tropic in a closing down jewellery store a while ago and I've been waiting for just the right watch to fit it to. It has a Seiko NH36 (or is that NH35, whichever hacks and hand winds?) inside and it's running at +2 seconds on the wrist. A rotating inner bezel and sapphire coated mineral crystal with AR coating. Comes with a handy 3 slot leather and canvas watch roll too. It's the first micro brand I've bought and only the second modern watch I've bought since I started this game. All in all I'm very impressed and it's great value at $250US shipped. mikeyt and meanoldmanning might be interested in this one.

Btw, the vintage Tropic is super comfortable. I don't know why no one is making these - especially out of a similar material.

That is gorgeous. I stumbled across the Dan Henry range on another forum a year or so back and really like them, only on the back burner for me as I follow the Seiko rabbit hole. Seeing yours I think the dial is superb and I absolutely love the knurling on the crown, really nice detail that. Cool strap too by the way, really suits it. I also like BIG watches a bit so maybe I'll have a look and see if anyone is knocking out their oversize more cheaply.

Really really nice acquisition. Congrats! BTW, the 4R35 is the date-only movement so the non-Seiko builds use the NH35. 4R36 has day and date and corresponds to the NH36.

I like that very much, and it looks great on the strap.

They did a fairly faithful repro here in my opinion. I have a Hamilton Super Compressor here right now and the look is pretty much spot on.

While I don;t have many I'm always looking at Hamilton's...There are at least two listed currently at $1200 and $1700..I think The Dan Henry is more my speed...

That Hamilton is really nice Adrian. I’ve seen similar Hamilton’s before and thought they really nailed it. A little outside my budget though.

That’s awesome. And a new watch... what!? That is very uncharacteristic for you mr vintage. I can see why though. Well done. What does the original Dan Henry strap feel look and feel like?

Yep, I can only buy new watches if they look like vintage models 😃 The strap it comes with is a fairly standard woven Tropic strap design. It wasn’t offensive, but I had the big hole Tropic and watch combination in mind ever since I found the strap so it was only a matter of hours before I switched out the stock strap. The rubber of the stock strap was a bit “grippy” on my wrist and I much prefer the feel of the Tropic.

The attention to detail on Dan Henry pieces is really quite stunning especially given the price point. I love that caseback and the finishing on those crowns. It's incredible! Nice pickup.
