There are already 4 bids over $5K for one of the five the IPO LE 000/500. They have 20 bids over $2200. 4 days to go.
Just because the movement can be bought/sold for $70 and the manufacturer is making a profit doesn't make it a "bad" movement. I'm certain many people think that a new Seiko for less than $200 can't have a quality movement inside, I mean how could it? Again let's not judge this by what ETA sells their movements for Vs. what Shinola is trying to get for the watch.
They only need to convince 500 people not 5000 or even 50,000. Will they discount them when they don't sell? Only time will tell. The fact that 20 people are "bidding" more then asking means they don't even have to convince 500, That said there's no telling of the other 15 bidders will even buy one now because its not 000/500...

I agree with what you've said regarding the movement. My criticism is from the point of view that it's an unknown quantity as it's a new movement and also the rich heritage and totally made in Detroit nonsense that Shinola bang on about. As much as I like the art direction and general design of the Shinola, and think they have got so much right, they tick off a few boxes on my "Bullshit Watch Brand" checklist. When you consider they have near zero resale value (I see them on Reddit all the time for like $150), they're just an awful deal. I think we are actually chasing Shinola as a client at the moment (logistics). I’ll check with our biz development guy and see, cause if we get work with them I could find out pretty conclusively about the manufacturing side.

Stunned that anyone would pay that price for Shinola! I think they deserve praise for marketing, apparently they can sell anything

Shinola sucks. Period. Zero desire to make a quality timepiece - simply praying on every dip shit they can find. A case study in marketing and how stupid 99.9% of the consuming public is. I am ashamed of any relation to the city of Detroit - a city they picked simply because it's a bad ass town on the rebound, tough as nails and on the mend, and surely fit the bullshit story they wanted to "sell".
Ruined Filson too.
They blow.

Ruined Filson too. They blow. That's who wrecked Filson? I knew somebody did, but I never investigated.

Coincidentally I noticed a pile of Filson-branded watches in TK Maxx at Stratford Westfield the other day. Didn’t really float my boat as they just looked like over-priced fashion watches, even when discounted. Did they used to be worth looking at then?

Filson's stuff was always high-priced, but it was exceptional quality. Lately, the prices have stayed about the same, but quality has nose-dived. They got their start selling to those going to Alaska for the gold rush.

I didn’t take too close a look, but they certainly didn’t enamour me.

No watch visible. Maybe he wears his Shinola on his right wrist. Is there a Shinola bike parked outside?

I recently saw a Shinola quartz chrono 5050 “runwell” on a sale app. Listed at $55, I got it for $40 after I saw some parts missing. It got wet because the crown was missing. I saw there was a similar Rhonda 5050 movement, which powered this watch, on the auction site for $45. That told me enough right there.
This watch sold for new at over $900. I decided to send it in to Shinola to have it repaired. It is getting a new movement, crown and stem and water tested. So, overall, I’m into this watch for $210, which is about all it is worth IMO. I’ll post a pic of it when I get it back.

Ha ha ha. It had my curiosity. I’d never pay that high retail price for a sh@t Shinola. Got it fixed because someone will.

I'd like to do a microbrand some day. But I have some ideas that would give a true point of difference. I'd better start socking away some lunch money - I'm in on this one too!
