I had a very busy weekend tinkering: I've just about finished a lovely 6139 Pogue, 3/4 finished a 6138 UFO and finished a lovely Rotary manual wind watch.
When I got the Rotary it was a non runner - removing the case back (snap on type) quickly revealed the problem.
that gear in the centre is actually the 2nd Wheel - missing the wheel. Here it is
it was completely detached with quite a dent
I did briefly contemplate a repair (flattening the wheel, then staking it back on) but then I realised the upper pinion was sheared off so I had to source a new one.
Looking at the orientation of the movement relative to the caseback opening 'groove' I'm pretty sure that whoever last had the back off slipped with their case knife and drove it into the movement zapping the 2nd wheel.
Here's the replacement 2nd Wheel
this movement (AS 2061) is really quite nice - I enjoyed cleaning it and putting it back together
Lovely work as always Simon. Any chance of a photo walk through on the 6138 and 6139 too? I’m mid strip on my first 6139 (I’ve been running round with Mrs Pip to buy her a new car and my 6yo has been under the weather so no tinkering at all this weekend!).

Polly has a pretty good walk through on a 6139B and the service manual is easy to find for the 6139A. I'm in the middle of a 6139-6012 that needs a fair bit of work (just jeweled the arbor pivots). I'll post disassembly/assembly photos when I'm done.
Thanks Steve. I’ve got Polly’a one and the guide, but always after more especially as it’s my first 6139. I remembered just after posting that Simon had done one on oiling a 6139 which also acts as a good guide.
I do tend to collect them too in case we have another photobucket debacle. These are the few I have to hand, I’ve some more upstairs and quite a few more in my Dropbox that I’ve not printed out as of yet as they’re for movements I’ve not started on yet.

Do you have the 6138 & 6139 Calibers Repair Manual? The 6139 is much the same as other 61xx series and the differences for service come down to a couple items for the vertical clutch and hammer.

Yes, actually I do, although I didn’t know that until just now!😞 Will print them out to read tomorrow.
A great job there Simon, I am a little intrigued by the fitting of the pallet before fitting the train bridge, how do you check that the train is running freely?
I usually assemble the train first and check it is running free then install the pallet and balance, and wonder if I am missing something?
I must admit putting the pallets in before fitting the bridge made getting the bridge back on a bit more fiddly (getting the escape wheel upright) and I don't normally do this.
