As I was organizing I noticed this guy sitting in the box. It was one of an eight piece lot I grabbed last year for $.99 going back and looking I don't know why I bought the lot. The auctions too old to see anything more than I paid beans for the group. I think I was hoping for another 1686 in the bunch. I'm guessing I was disappointed.
Its got a very nice clean dial and all stainless case. The lack of country on the dial made me suspect of it being Swiss. Nothing much on the case back either. The hands wouldn't advance properly, sometimes the hour hand would move without the minutes hand and vise-versa. Winding the main spring made a "stripped" feeling... With the back off, I noticed that one of the screws for the crown wheel is nearly out. I tighten it and I reinstall the stem. I was then able to wind the main spring. The balance started to come to life. Ticked then stopped, tick and stop. I then noticed the hairspring looked like it was tweaked. I have had zero luck straightening one so I wasn't looking forward to it. Since the entire lot was $1 what do I have to lose. As I start to strip the movement, balance first. I take the hairspring off and go to grab my #5 when I see that the Hairspring is sitting pretty centered??? I have done more harm then good before straightening a Breguet type hairspring (Over coil) I figure maybe I should figure out if this is one...Turns out it is, so odds are there isn't going to be an issue. Well other than I did bump it a few times as the ?Boot? ?Heal? didn't have a slot for the screw driver to turn it out of the way...
A search on Ranfft told me its a Russian Plojot. Then a trip to 17 jewels told me about the Breguet type hairspring... The movement is incredible clean so I'll give it a bath in the Ultra and Naphtha and see if I can get another runner...
Photos so far.
Screws loose!
