I just got a message from a guy over on Reddit. He just emptied out his grandfather's storage unit, and found a 6139-6005 "Resist" (blue dial) complete with the original price tag and what looks like not a mark on it. He took off the H-link and put it on a NATO. I've guided him here and he might show up to talk about it, but damn. LOOK at those case lines.

You might want to tell him to take it off... surprised-scream-smiley-emoticon Hopefully he shows up, nice find for sure.

That case looks sharp enough to shave with. Nice piece, strap suits it too. Hope he turns up, it'd be good to have some new members about.
I'll try to find the Seiko bit on Reddit, I visit there sometimes to look at the WTF posts & other general weirdness. That site has got some VERY strange content.

It'll make a change from looking at some of their more bizzare content, some of which is pretty sick, which is saying something as I've got a very dark sense of humour but I've seen stuff there that's just sooo wrong. freaked-out-smiley-emoticon

There's a ton of great content, really, but when it gets deep & dark there, you'd better be ready for anything.

Yep, I think I've seen some of their worst content, sometimes when I was least expecting it. Made me feel like I needed to wash in Holy Water. I love a bit of sick humour but is up with some of those people that post stuff there. " Cellar dwellers".

There are things lurking in that Marianas Trench of a site that would terrify the hardiest sailor on the wine-dark seas of the internet. I've seen stuff by accident that still bothers me more than a year later.

Ummm, just popping over to reddit... I might be gone for some time.

Thanks Seikoholic, was just waiting for my account to be approved before posting; and yes, the NATO is gone, so no worries. This one was a huge surprise, as my mother knows I love Seiko's but thought the style on this might be too dated for my taste (I normally wear a SNN079P2 ) But when I popped the near-pristine Seiko box open, I couldn't believe what a nice, and new-looking watch it was. I swabbed the case when I got home to get off the dust and crud that had accumulated in storage, and was left with hardly a blemish on it. It wasn't until the next day when I was looking at how to set the day and date that I saw the ebay auction that OP posted, and my jaw dropped. 100% not going to sell, as it has some nice sentimental value, aside from being my first automatic movement watch, but my next step is to try to find a local repair person who is familiar with this piece and can give it a nice oiling.

For a first foray into vintage Seiko, you've fallen on your feet. Not many guys get to handle one of these in that kind of condition. I'd really love to see a complete set of photos of everything together - box, tags, bracelet, watch.

I certainly hope that for $722.00 + you will wear it!? Would be a shame to see it sitting in a drawer as a drawer queen for that kind of moolah!

Send it to Spencer (seikoholic) for a service. His prices are VERY reasonable and his work top notch! EDIT: Forgot to mention . . . I've had my Dad's 6139-6005 since the late '70's or early '80's. My Mom got it for him as a birthday present in '72. He wore it for years and then gave it to me. I wore it for years until the crown broke off. It sat in drawers for years until I got more interested in watches. I found "another Japanese board" and met Shawn (dcso211 here) who offered to donate the parts (stem and crown) in order to get the watch working again. I sent Shawn the watch and when he opened it, he found a nice shiny movement but he recommended that it get a service. It went to Spencer and I couldn't recommend him more. Here is a pic of my family heirloom 6139: I've also got a blue version which I purchased from another board member. Not a Resist dial but it's in really nice shape.

I found mine in grandfather's storage unit. He bought it for $95 back in 1971 (which I've determined from the SN that it was manufactured March 1971.)

Great find!
I decided to break this off, and create a separate thread...I didn't want it to get lost.

Having the original bracelet is not an obligation to wearing it on the original bracelet. These watches look great on nylon, rubber, leather...have fun with it. Watch straps are the manly way to accessorize!

Watch straps are the manly way to accessorize! I think it looks good too. My only worry about NATO straps are the wear they can produce on a caseback given enough time.
