New to this forum, and still fairly new to watches. Most of my life, I've had a watch, one at a time until it died/broke, or I just wanted something shiny and new. Nothing high end, just a G-Shock or fashion watch, like a Fossil, all quartz. Middle of 2016, the watch I was wearing died, and I started looking around for something new. Gave a look at what eBay had to offer, and stumbled on a Citizen Blue Angels A-T watch. The price was right, the condition was excellent, and the seller was here in Atlanta, so I pulled the trigger and was pleasantly surprised. Lots of great functions, the radio controlled part was great, no more worries about it being off, and since I'm a big Blue Angels fan, it made me happy on a lot of different levels. I started looking at other Eco-Drive watches, I was really drawn to the grab & go of a quartz, with the benefit of no regular battery changes with the solar powered movements. Picked up a small handful of Eco-Drives on eBay and forums, and then discovered Yahoo Japan. That soon spiraled out of control, and I found myself with over 30 Eco-Drive watches, many of them JDM Exceed or Attesa models, and another dozen additions to the wife's collection. The only really nice pieces were a few Signature Collection Eco-Drive models for both me and my wife, and a Campanola Eco-Drive for myself.
Fast forward to middle of 2018, and I started to gain some interest in Grand Seiko models, and decided to test the water with a 9F quartz model. I picked one up off Yahoo Japan, used, but in pretty decent condition, and was really impressed by the finishing and details. That led me to the Spring Drive, and just picked one of those up at Christmas. In order to make the GS purchases, I had to come to a decision regarding the collection, I had gotten to the point that even changing watches mid-day on weekends, I was hard pressed to rotate through my entire collection in a month. While there were a handful of watches that I loved, the majority were ones I liked, but wouldn't really miss, and that didn't fill a specific need. So away went most of the Eco-Drives I had picked up, which left plenty of funds for the GS acquisitions. Down to about 10 watches total, and may trim it down even further. So my small collection of keepers now consists of:
Seiko 5606-7070 Lord Matic from my birth year/month
GS SBGX005 & SBGA101
Citizen Signature Collection Grand Complication
Citizen Blue Angels A-T
Citizen Exceed x2, one E510 and G530 movement
Citizen Diver Full Lume dial BL5280-58W
There's a few others that are probably on their way out, and not really worth mentioning, as I still pick up some interesting pieces on Yahoo Japan and flip them for a few bucks here and there. It's been an interesting journey over the past few years, and I hope to continue it in the years to come.
