I listed a very beat up 6105-8110 on Gumtree today and within two minutes a very nice fellow messaged and then called me. He'd been after one, but prices had got away from him and he was dead keen to have it. We agreed I'd hold it and he'd transfer funds when he got home after work. Unfortunately he told his wife what he had planned. Terrible mistake that I'm sure most of us don't make. 😆

I am the luckiest guy in the world. When I show my wife a watch I want to buy all she ever tells me is that I should have the things I want. Of course part of that process is exhausting her with all the details of why I want the watch, the model history and significance, the amount of time I have searched for it, what niche it will fill in my life and my collection and how it makes me feel emotionally to think about the joy I will have by owning it.
This is also how I wound up with speakers in the living room that are taller than she is (but of course she does appreciate how wonderful they sound...). I'm even pre-approved for a new Solar Arnie!

Yeah mine. I'll at least flip one (occasionally) for a profit (by mistake)and let her see me do it. Buy at the thrift store sell at the pawn shop. So she does see the logic in it somewhere. That's ok my buddy showed up to buy a motorcycle and made a ridiculously low offer in cash that was immediately accepted. By the guys wife. Good luck in your pursuits gentleman.

My wife often talks me out of selling watches but I have had someones wife talk him out of selling me a few vintage chronograph watches back in the day because she wanted to give them to her sisters kids.

Mine did have a look of concern when we played the guessing game of how much my coke gmt2 was...but I told her she could get another dog.

There was a time when Mrs Leffe questioned why I had so many watches. I just responded asking why she had so many handbags and bracelets... She then asked when I was going to stop - “when you’ve one for every day of the year?” At it’s peak my total stood at over 200 but I’ve recently offloaded about 50 or so. Still got too many though.
To be fair, she’s never raised an eyebrow nor questioned what they’ve cost, and I’ve never felt the need to hide anything I’ve picked up. But then my purchases have never been ‘high brow’, and I’ve never been in the situation where I’m spending money that we need for something more urgent.

I showed my wife the watch and she agreed with John's wife.
But she also knows I mostly try to sell what I need to to fund any new watches and don't spend money we need for other things so it's all good. 👍

Aloha , I have no problem with my wife at all. She always says...... " If you want it that is just fine with me, then she says ...... " If you need money I will lend it to you with the understanding that you will owe me and pay me back ". Then she says ...well if you want to you can take me out to dinner or shopping and maybe I will forgive you and just charge you ..... " Half The Price ". But I always say .......I really thought it was all our money at that. She replies back most of the time with Her famous reply ...... " Hey Jack, I really thought it was all in my Bank ". So I say I will Beg If Needed and she just laughs about it. But I get what I want most of the time...... .

Our standing rule is that as long as the bills are paid and there's food in the pantry, and our emergency savings go undisturbed, I don't question what's in her jewelry box and she doesn't question what's in my gun safe (to include watches).
We've been together over 35 years, so I guess it's working.

My wife doesn't say anything about what I choose to buy, although I will talk myself out of an occasional purchase, she's fine with my decisions. Apparently she's well versed in the difference between want, and need...

My wife doesn't say anything about what I choose to buy, although I will talk myself out of an occasional purchase, she's fine with my decisions. Apparently she's well versed in the difference between want, and need... Same here, I guess. I became infatuated with a for sale Grand Seiko on WUS a while back. It was far from new and had some patina, but the price was fair and it really was a great looking watch. I went back and forth with myself and finally decided to pass. Wife never even knew I was looking at it and probably wouldn't have said anything negative if I'd bought it. But with a son about to embark on a new career in another state and a daughter who just finished her first of grad school, keeping that money in my pocket provides me with more sense of security than having the watch would have brought pleasure. I'll find one when the time is right. Sometimes being an adult is just hard........... Addendum: One last thought on this topic. If my wife were to ever say 'honey, i don't think now is the time for a discretionary purchase of that magnitude', I'd listen to her. She's pretty smart. I mean, she married me, right? Damn, now I've got to give this some thought.........

Like mentioned it is where the Finances are for then the enjoyment side. We have been ..... Married 51 Years now and we will continue to be like this. Aloha Louis
