Late to the party with these two. Lighting conditions proved difficult, had to use flash - I have never taken a worse photo of these, really puts them to shame! Let’s see if they are at least keeping time. 7a38-706a (oct -85) and 9940-8010 (oct -78) Which one is your primary entry? Has to be the 7A - the GQ is twin quartz HEQ I'll be timing my own 9940-8000 against the 7546, but I have no real hope that it still performs at the level it did in 1978

Late to the party since yesterday was a very busy day. If I'm too late, I'll play along for fun to see how this recently serviced (by KVW) 7A28 fares.

I am still happy to receive entries. There is no point in being rigid with a start date for those who missed out. I will just tally the results for those who couldn’t start on the 7th, 30 days after they entered. Will probably cut the challenge by mid week.

I think the 9940 is more accurate still - thats my primary entry if allowed - it is vintage after all... Which one is your primary entry? I suspect that the Quartz Accuracy Challenge will be the Wrist Sushi equivalent of the famous Pitch Drop Experiment which has been running for the past 92 years. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitch_drop_experimentSome time may pass. Wow, I had forgotten about that. I recall being told about it in Fluid Dynamics class which would have been in 1986 I guess. Back then glass was also considered a very viscous fluid but I think it has been reclassified since as a solid again.

Senpai I am very interested to see how your twin quartz will perform and am glad to see it in the mix, but I’m going to have to accept your other quartz watch as your official entry unless you want to add an extra entry. Even in 1978 the twin quartz caliber 994x was advertised as capable of 10 sec +\- a year compared to 10-20 per month. www.grand-seiko.com/us-en/special/10stories/vol4/1/I’d like encourage everyone to submit their comparison watches to the database or send me your watch and variant to time if any. That way we can compare our haq, new and old. Eg percisionist vs twin quartz or similar. I’d guesstimate we have at least 50 watches being compared this month so the more data we can get the more fun we can have with the numbers. In breaking news I think I may have found a prize.... Although I am liking it a bit too much

I think I'm already out since I just checked and I'm +2 seconds already.

I’ve just added a load of my additional entries Cam, including my Bulova UHFs just to see how they compare. There’s a decent spread of movements as well so it should prove quite interesting (well, to us if no-one else) seeing how they perform.

What a list leffemonster. I would like to encourage everyone to throw up some comparison watches. As mentioned we will likely keep this list going beyond the comp. tritto Rod @aussiemax kue, acidstain stuart sweephand mikeyt 3Pedals6Speeds @whorepheus Mr.Jones @cbmike @ranier groundhogman @meanoldthing rossr and 69ChevelleSS I’m sure you have some others that you set to compare. If you want send me the model and the date you synced and I’ll pop them on the list. Or feel free to update the sheet as leffemonster pip and small have done. You just need to be signed into google to do it. I might graph the brands later.

I’ll mention I have done that in that thread. You are welcome to update the database if that interests you but I’m happy to tally things from the threads. If anyone else sees a post that they think could be recorded on the database then by all means. This is everyone’s document so anyone can have as much of a play as me.

I just didn’t want to post the proof photos in the WRUW threads and then muck up whatever entry had been made on the database by jumping in and adding something to it too.

It’s all pretty easy from my end if it’s done as we go. If I see an update I check the spreadsheet. If it’s already noted I smile. If it’s not I add it then I smile.

I might do a group set and put them in similar groups, like 7A28/38, 7548, 7549 and Tuna divers and non Seiko. I'm not too interested in their individual accuracy (or for them to be on the list) but would make for an interesting comparison for sure and something I've never done.

I'll add this as the first of the "For Interest" watches. Seiko 3923-5010 June '73. I estimate that the watch is running about 0.25 of a second in front of the time server. I'll add it to the file. And a few others added as well.

The rest of mine are autos.

Would be interesting to see the difference in accuracy between serviced and unserviced.

Anybody interested in having one of my Accutrons thrown in the mix? I think it might be an interesting comparison of an early electric to the quartz.

Anybody interested in having one of my Accutrons thrown in the mix? I think it might be an interesting comparison of an early electric to the quartz. I just sold off the last of my 3 Accutrons (218 series variants). Loved them. Mine were not accurate at all given they required a battery with a voltage no longer made and the whole timing/regulating thing scared off from trying considering a minute a month or so in perfect working order beat a dead module that a hack like me could have ruined.
