Hopefully the mods will relax the no links to live auctions for this one, since even Thomas isn't crazy enough to live on canned food for a year to afford this one. (Link deleted)

I'm kind of expecting to see this is Thomas' WRUW next week! I often wonder what friend Thomas actually does wear! He sure seems to spend more every month on watches than I do on my mortgage, but does he actually wear any of them? Come on Tommy - get that safe open and strap some to your wrist!

Buyee tells me I can't bid on it, because the current price exceeds their maximum bid. That will surely curtain some of the foreign bidders won't it? Other proxies require you to deposit the full amount before bidding. I guess the serious money has other ways of getting in on the action.

November ‘69 serial! I wonder what the serial numbers of the other first Astrons were, considering they were released in December ‘69.

I'd be very interested in feedback from mods on why this post has been permitted. Is there a free-for-all on posting live auctions when the bidding gets above a certain amount? If so, perhaps the rules could be updated to reflect that? Kind regards, Gerald.

We don’t read every thread so that”s why it was still up. That’s why your reporting it is important and thank you again. I am sensitive to this because we do have some high end members and they should have the same courtesy for competitive bidding as “the rest of us”. On that subject, I was sniping what came to light after bidding was over for that Jan. 1969 6139-6010 on YJ myself a few weeks ago. The listing was lousy and only by expanding the seemingly innocent case back photo could you see the serial started with 91. I PM’d Brian who in turn PM’d Anthony and we were quite active discussing bid levels but not publicly. I was in it fairly aggressively though in the end it was Bertrand was tuned in too and he was the most committed. Point is, someone could have blown that for Bertrand if they thought it was “newsworthy” while still active.

Did it end? I searched, but can't find an active auction for anything but a year 2000 'recraft' of the original (case doesn't look like original).

Excuse me while I bend over and breath deeply while trying to imagine what this means. Seems crazy to me, and like all of you, I love these gems we collect.

Gerald made a good point. I think exceptional watches should be excluded from the normal rule.
I find it very entertaining following a live auction that might set a new record for a desirable Seiko.

OK but where do you draw the line and how is that fair to the high rollers? Just my opinion. Is not being apprised of an auction until it is over a hardship? We could make a rule “once a watch passes X dollars we can post a live link” but I say it’s wrong because some members here could still be in play. They don’t want their grail to be unnecessarily tipped off to another bidder. But that”s just my opinion. And until then it’s the rule, Ruke #6: 6) Spamming, trolling, advertising / self-promotion, links to live auctions and sales sites are prohibited.

I agree. And I consider anything above $50 to be exceptional. Where I live, that's what many people are thankful to earn in a week, so I know they would all consider a watch priced that high to be an exceptional piece. (Obviously I don't agree, but hopefully you get the point.)
