Iv got a lord marvel with a production date of March 1968 reference 5740 8009. It has the 36k bph 5740C movement but on dial it doesnt even say lord marvel, only 36m 23 jewels and iv only seen one other case with this dial for parts on ebay.. anybody have any info why it doesnt say lord marvel? And what does 36m mean?

Sounds like a possible re-dial situation. Post 5 times then post a photo. Mine says "hi":

Maybe the โMโ is used as in the Roman numeral for 1000, i.e. 36M = 36000.
Thatโs a beautiful watch by the way!

Thank you suntzu, i appreciate it.. and yeah that could the case of it being the Roman numeral. Iv only seen one other dial like it and was in a stainless case like mine. Definitely a keeper for me. I finally got the back off and it says daini seikosha co ltd 23 twenty three jewels 3 adjustments 5740C

There are a couple deep scratches on the case back now from my opener slipping, was on so tight I had to gently use a vice to hold the watch

It's a beauty and the LM36000 sweep hand moves so smoothly it's a thing to behold. Much smoother than my KS 36000 4502 and even modern Grand Seikos running at 10 bps.
BUT those hands are wrong. I think the dial is original with a tasteful but confused re-text with new incorrect hands.
Case back is correct many of these were Seahorse backs but more were horseshoes like yours.

What do you mean by retext? And I didnt even notice the hands, thanks for pointing that out. I mean I actually really like it the way it is... it kind of like doesnt grab your attention but once it does, you cant stop checking it out. Especially that smooth hand. Almost as smooth as an accutron

I have searched and found a thumb-nail photo of a watch which has the same dial text and hand-set, though it comes on a different strap, so I can't tell if it was the exact same watch as yours or not. The dial of this one looks to be a bit yellowed like your one is as well, but it's not high-res enough to see if it's got the same yellow spots/marks on the dial underneath/near the 10 o'clock marker. It was listed for sale at a Goodwill, so I guess in the U.S.A.: May I ask where the seller you got yours from was based? I can't seem to find the eBay listing. iv only seen one other case with this dial for parts on ebay. Do you have photos of that? I have also managed to find photos of another example here which ended a couple of days ago, which might be the one you saw for parts, which is clearly a different example of the watch, as this one's dial is more badly damaged and darkly-discoloured around its edge and around the mounting points for the applied numerals, with dark spots near 9 and 10, and is not really stained yellow, and it is missing its crown, but again it has the same hand-set, so I think the hand-set is legitimate, though different from the standard hand-set on the 5740-8000 model: Here is another example which ended a week ago, again clearly a different example due to the heavily-damaged dial, but the "36 M" and "23 jewels" text can just be seen, as can the same hand-set: The serial number on this one is 830243, so made in the same month and year as yours, and just 71 examples after your 830172.
