Hey everyone, Glad to have finally signed up here! While I'm only < 2 years into horology being a main hobby, as a former pro bike mechanic and metalworker, current Architect, hobbyist tube amp modifier, and photograper, I guess it was inevitable that I fell into the abyss with watches! What's not to like about these miraculous micro machines, these lightening rods for the ability of design to distill the mores of the cultural context of their moment of creation, automagically capable of perpetual motion while harnessing the abstraction of time itself. Pretty cool. A big part of what powers my watch nerdery is Seiko. I love the David vs. Goliath origin story, exhaustive list of 'firsts', sustained, concurrent expression of values and ideals from various eras of Japanese culture, and the democratization of timekeeping precision via low-cost quartz. Some parent-friends from my son's school are watch nerds as well, but at a decidedly higher monetary committment than I have mustered myself Recently, I was part of a discussion on the merits of in-house movements. This was in the context of a waning interest in Panarai and increasing interest in Patek...I mentioned that I too have several pieces with in-house movements from a single maker including what I was wearing at the time: my trusty beater SKX007 #winning Perhaps my favorite thing about Seiko is this: it's readily possible to make a great watch with all aspects made in house to be sold with an unlimited price tag; it's almost impossible to do this for the cost of a decent pair of running shoes Hail Seiko! Anyway, I hope to contribute something of value in return for the wealth of knowledge already here. Many thanks, Ted

Welcome! That's what drew me into Seiko, particularly vintage Seiko, as well: The fact that you can get a watch with a completely hand built movement and unique design for under $1000. The 45XX series King Seikos are Grand Seikos are great examples. They're the last of the completely hand-built Seiko movements from the 60s/70s with excellent finishing and they can still be picked up for <$500 on Yahoo JP in decent original condition in the case of the KS 450x (GS 452x examples are a bit more).
